Childrens prescription sunglasses

My son has NHS free glasses issued in April 2008 but we need to buy him some sunglasses and they are all so expensive. The cheapest offer was £70 and that was a really poor old fogie style, frame. We have the prescription and I would buy from online but can only find designer sunglasses which are even more expensive than £70.

Have you looked around for the "clip on" sunglasses - not exactly cool, but definitely cheaper!

On-line spectacle sellers are not allowed to sell prescription glasses to children under 16. Probably better to ask your optician will he supply a second pair privately for the NHS rate ( we do).
  • We were in the same situation with my daughter last year but her optician suggested tinting an old pair of her regular glasses (with current prescription) & it only cost £16. Hope this helps.

our 7 year old son has clip on sunglasses. we bought them last year as we couldn't get prescription ones (without paying a fortune) and he loves them:D He is using them again this year. They were £20 from Boots which I think is rather expensive but last year they were reduced to half price and this year (had to get another pair cos couldn't find the ones from last year!) bought them using half price sunglasses voucher from Boots.

Got sunglasses from Specsavers last year - when we had her eyes tested and changed her existing NHS glasses we bought the sunglasses for £36.
