Learndirect - who is it for?

I am looking to get back to work after a long break (3 kids!), in the next year or two and wanted to get some courses under my belt. Learndirect look ideal with their flexible online courses, but I can see no mention of prices or who courses are eligible for, I am not on any benefits nor eligible for help with anything so would I be able to use them?

I have sent off for an info pack but will no doubt take a few days to get to me, so thought I would ask here.....

The courses you can buy on line do have prices on the website. For example
    http://www1.learndirect-business.com/business-courses/project-2000/

If you go here - http://catalogue.learndirect.co.uk/courses/ - and look on the left-hand side you will see "Our Courses" and underneath are 4 areas. Use the hyperlinks to the areas that interest you and see what the courses are.

Not all Learndirect courses are completed on line. Some will require you to attend a Learndirect centre (this is a flexible arrangement).

There are Skills for Life courses (eg a numeracy qualification at the equivalent level of GCSE A*-C) that are free.

Thanks LittleVoice, but the courses with prices are the business ones not the regular LearnDirect ones. I am after the basic Digital Literacy etc, though hopefully I can progress to those....

"Digital Literacy" sounds like a Skills for Life course - and therefore I expect it is free.

Try their freephone number or go here - http://learndirect.phoneme.net/SkillsAndQualifications/CallBack.php - and ask them to call you back.

Went on a basic learndirect computer course when I was unemployed that was arranged by the local job centre, it was free and was a couple of hours a week for 1 month with a certificate at the end of the course.

    Hi Charliepud
The prices for the courses are based on what benifits etc you are entitled to.
I would suggest ringing your local center and they will point you in the right direction on costs. click here and on the right hand side is the "search for your local center". You will need to go into the center to sign up with learndirect but you will be able to most of your course's on line.
    Good Luck

  • I took a UFI course with them some years ago when they were offering any course in a range for £50. It was pretty good, well worth doing, finished it in three months. The offer itself was in one of the PC mags, might have been PC Answers or somesuch. Worth keeping an eye out...

Have you looked at the Open University (https://www.open.ac.uk). Most people get courses funded in full and they are generally well above the level of courses offered by Learn Direct.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

don't know if they are any good, but they seem to do all sorts of free, online stuff.

Thanks, I will call the centre on Monday. Took a look at the OU, but grants are based on household income, unfortunately/fortunately our income is too high (but so is our mortgage!)
