Try www.adslguide.org for advice. Gives advice on the best performers in Internet, you can also use postcode checker for seeing what services are available in your area.

You will get mixed views/reviews on here so I will start you off by saying we are very pleased by Tiscali's broadband.0

And I will say that I am well pleased with Plus.net0

I'm very happy with pipex!0

absolutely superb, and at £17.97pm (or £14.97 if you use their landline service!!) its a steal, its totaly uncapped and 512k (but it uses shared exchange and many get speeds up to 2Mb!)0

You can still remain with ntl
with ntl freedom

When I moved to the lurgan Exchange a year ago, I was told I would have to wait until someone in the area left ADSL before I could get it. And there was a waiting list and I was at the bottom of it!!!
Got connected 7 days later
Been with Pipex a year, £23.44 a mo 1MEG uncapped, free modem & activation. They have started to limit users who download lots during peak hours. Migrated to freedom2surf 2 weeks ago. Better speeds it 2Meg Uncapped (really) @ £25 a month, 1 month contract so I can leave anytime.
Im a heavy user, if your not there is a lot cheaper and slower out there.
Always do the ADSLguide comparsion with a provider, compare it to a few good ones like Pipex & Plusnet & Freedom2surf and AOL for a laugh. Then on the adslguide site go to the * message board * scroll down to the provider your going to go with, and within 10 seconds you will know if is good bad or ugly. I was going to go with Plusnet until I read the message board on Adslguide. Basiaclly leave within 5 YEARS!! and there is a charge for the 'free' modem and 'free' activation not to mention the speed problems some people are having.
Cheapest and not too nasty seems to be e7even.com 1 Meg 'unlimited?' for £10 a month. But you have to pay in advance, I would use a Credit card incase they go bust, then you can get your money back. And you have to sign up for 2 years to get free activation. Even if you could'nt afford £240 upfront, stick it on your CCard and pay tenner + intrest each month and it will work out cheaper than most ripp off providers. Adsl modems go for about £5 on eBay if you need one.0
