Getting Washing Dry

It's raining here, has been all day so the tumble dryer is in use, it's gas so it is economical, dries faster then any other I have ever used. I have got the space back for my whirly clothes dryer since both kids left for uni with their cars so if the weather is fine I will be using it.
I got plastic hoop contraption with pegs on for drying underwear (£1 at Instore) my daughter hangs it in her bathroom, saves on trips to the laundrette for her.
We don't have a convetional hot water tank as we have a combi boiler so nowhere to air clothes. I don't dry trousers in the tumble dryer as they get too dry, I have a couple of radiator airers which I use in the spare room.0 -
Thanks everyone for your ideas. I managed to get the washing dry today with the sun and the wind. I don't have an airing cupboard. My boiler is one of those ones that's stuck on the kitchen wall. I might buy an over bath airer.

We have had this one for about 12 years, it's a White Knight, made by Crosslee in Hipperholme in West Yorkshire, looks exactly like a conventional dryer but it is much more efficient, it can dry a load of towels in about 45 minutes, and costs very little to run.0 -
I dry mine in the garage too-I have 3 airers! Otherwise in the conservatory so I can leave the door open a little, or over the bath if you dont have a lot of washing. If you have dampe/condensation, it could be worth getting a dehumidifier.Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0

Wouldn't a dehumidifier cost more to run than a tumble drier?0 -

Black Saturn, sounds a bit like our house, two up, two down terrace!! We don't have central heating or an airing cupboard...no fair
. We just shove freestanding airers all round the house, and I know this is naughty
but we only do it when we are in the same room, is put a few bits (pants, socks etc) over the fire guard in the living room. We've also got a clothes line made from string criss crossing the upstairs hallway. Its like the chrystal maze trying to get to the loo or the bedrooms.
All I've ever wanted is a hallway and an airing cupboardOne day, maybe when we can afford to move.

You should have seen the house I had before this. It was even smaller. This one feels huge compared to that one :eek:2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Well nobody can do the imposible. I know I'm lucky in this respect. Well my dehimidifier does indeed use 200w but it doesnt stay on for more than a few mins at a time-works intermittently depening upon how damp the air is. what I did notice, is that the house warms up a lot quicker when I use it, as its not warming the damp air. some people obviously need the opposite and humidify the air. All depends what you house is like and if you have any specific health requirements. I have used my airing cupboard more since Ive been on here-I was guilty of only storing bedlinen in it for most of its life. I do hope Ive mended my ways because my electric bill just has to come down.Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults0

I've been musing over this one too. No tumble dryer either - tiny kitchen. Back yard is surrounded by 3 walls so doesn't get much wind or sun. It's fine in the hight of summer, but the rest of the year I can put washing on the line and it'll be no dryer several hours later.
BUT I put washing over every available radiator and have over radiator airers that are good. My question is, if I put the heating on to dry the clothes when I could have managed with a jumper, is this not as bad as running a tumble dryer? Both for my pocket and the environment?May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0
