Anyone got any experience with NICS interviews? In a panel interview what sort of questions do they ask?
Thanks
Thanks

Done mine years ago and was asked about the traffic to the interview and very little to do with the actual job I was going for. It worked as I got it and have been there ever since. What grade is it for? The likes of AA/AO revolve around teamwork questions and problem solving examples. Good luck!!0

Its for a Government Economist position, I don't know if its going to be personal questions about my ambitions, drive etc or about policy, theory and such. I've already completely the preliminary test and I must have finished in the require percentile.
ThanksI need lots of it!

Well , I am not sure about an economist position but I know that for administrative middle management positions, questions revolve around the following competencies: Strategy and Planning, Project Management, Managing Services, Managing Resources, Information and Communication, Managing people.
You could try phoning them to ask about the types of competencies you will be expected to demonstrate.

If it's an Economist post, then it's very likely a DP post. Competences required are at the first link below. You can expect the individual questions to be based around the performance indicators of the competence, but a set of questions based around the key competence. Please note that the interview format is in an evolutionary phase (we used to get all questions on a competence in one batch), so don't expect the questions to come in the same order as the competences are listed, or indeed as the performance indicators are.
e.g. Question on Strategy/Policy
The set of questions will be based around the unit of competence - 1.3 Develop plans which assist with the implementation of the organisation’s
strategy.
The individual questions will need you to show how you meet the performance criteria outlined for that part of the competence.
Best way to approach it is to have an example (or two) which covers all aspects of the performance indicators. That way you'll be able to cover the whole competence.
Unfortunately, you won't find competences specifically for Economists, but the second link DOES provide for specialist roles. Expect some of the questions to test your knowledge, but I assume that you have qualified in some form, and that covers the economics part of the recruitment requirements.

For Economists, there will also be a 'Professional Knowledge & Skills' Competency in addition to the competencies that Bingo Bango has highlighted in his post. If the position is for 'Assistant Economist' then have a look at the Staff Officer & Analogous Grades and the general competencies will be the same as those. THe only link I can find for 'Professional Knowledge & Skills' is a generic one - 'Professional Knowledge & Skills', it's not specific to the Economist Grade. Check your application pack as competencies are usually contained within that.

As it's a competency based interview, there won't be personal questions related to your ambition etc.

Had my AO interview last Wednesday. They asked me questions on three of the core competencies. First they asked me about Services, tell them about a time I had perfromed a service for a customer. The second one was based on People, tell them about a time when I had to create and maintain effective working relationships. The third was based on Information and Communication, tell them about a time when I had used computer systems to transmit information electronically.
All in all the interview went ok and only took around 15 minutes.0 -

Three years ago lol. They only got back to me about it in July, I'd actually forgotten about it. They also got in touch with me about an AA post I applied for at the same time!0
