Well one week on and all is well.

Most of the debt repayment cheques have cleared except Egg who take 8 working days.Date in diary to check this out and clear and cut up when complete.;)

OH rang one credit card to check balance and paid the interest of £10 :D from last week and that is now clear and gone.

I made sure all debts were paid by cheque as I got caught out last time I wanted to pay some debts back. My bank refused large transfers online.

Funnily enough all the CC companies 'urged' us to repay online. No chance.

I also sent all cheques recorded delivery.;)

We have all debts on a white board in full view at home and a line is drawn through each fully settled debt when it's confirmed with the CC companies and bank.

We have all CC cards in a basket which on our 'everything is confirmed and cleared day' we will cut up and burn in a little ceremony which may involve alcohol.:rotfl:

CC companies seem really keen to say how much available we have to SPEND.....errrrr no, we don't have credit money to spend....it's not real its debt......I'm sure they have a script to try to psychological con you into thinking that it's a positive. Idiots.

So it's still sinking in, however day to day still doing much of the same.

Slowcooker is on with tonights tea, reduced chicken thighs, I still use MOC's for shopping.;):D

I'm doing a car boot at the weekend and we need to switch energy suppliers asap.

For anyone reading this please keep going, you will get there, keep getting support and advice from this site, it's a lifesaver.

 grrr egg are playing funny gits.......I received an email yesterday:eek: saying that they have just received the cheques.

I don't bl00dy think so, they were sent recorded delivery on 12th june, they would have received them on the 13th june, methinks they want another weeks worth of interest from us.
Everywhere else has cleared, they were all sent at the same time.

Cheeky bleeders, sent them a very snotty email pointing out the above and that we have proof of when it was posted etc and that we expect the cheque to have cleared tues /wed next at latest, not the following week.

    and breathe........

If you sent them recorded, you can check online which day they were signed for. Silly sods...

Three weeks into debt free land and still flunking EGG are doing our heads in. All cheques cleared today so we ring them to ask for the final, final balance to pay and close the 3 CC accounts.

20 minutes later after much tooing and frooing they refuse to give OH a final balance.

'Wait til your direct debit comes out then ring us again' they say.

'Errrrr no, give me a final balance now because you'll stick more interest (although v. tiny) on to the card, never give me the correct amount to pay off and I'll never be rid of it'.

    We had all these excuses:-

    can't give you balance now

would prefer you send a cheque

can't close account untiul clear, when will it be clear, when you pay the balance off, whats the balance, I'll pay it now, we can't tell you the balance.

Excuses I had, sorry Mrs Triker cannot give you the total balance, thats ok, give me todays balance, I'll overpay a bit then close.

You can't and you can only pay over the phone with a debit card in your name.

It is in my name, my surname has changed as I got married, I have been through all your security checks and given you personal info to verify that all accounts are mine.

We can't take a payment from the card over the phone it has to be a debit card in the same name as the account.

But you've been taking direct debits from this account in this name and the cheques I wrote were in my married name you accepted them.

You can send another cheque, it has to be 2 seperate ones, a charge of £2.00 for each cheque will be levied and it'll take 8 working days to clear.

This is what I have done, I've overpaid an amount on each....hopefully it'll cover any mythical interest.

Oh and I asked for written confirmation that all accounts are closed.....'nope sorry we don't write to people, Egg is an internet bank so we'll leave it 2 months and as long as there is no activity on your account the computer will automatically shut it down but you won't be informed!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Grr they make me soooo mad, they WANT us to have their bleeding CC, they WANT us never to be free of it and then they'll plop loads of offers through the door promising really good rates etc.

Its devils work....I want them gone, we both want to burn them.

They really did give us both the run around, OH was getting that mad I told him to tell them that we were recording the phonecall and that we were sending it to the financial ombudsman. Funnily enough then they denied ever saying half of the shiiiite they had been saying.:mad:

Record it and send it to the ombudsman.

Will do, its just so ironic that I am this wound up but it's because the CC companies appear to want us to not ever become truly debt free and also CLOSE THE ACCOUNT.

They've spoilt it a bit but hey ho, it'll get sorted.;)
