The main reason is the Epson printers…the printers are just too smart! Printers usually operate by sharing intelligence between the printer and the cartridge (look for the printed circuit on your ink cartridge – that’s the smart part). However, in an Epson printer, the intelligence comes from the printer itself. Cartridges used in Epson printers do not need to contain any technology so they’re just plastic and ink. Since it is cheaper and easier to manufacture a brand new Epson printer cartridge than to refill an old one, the market for reusable Epson cartridges is very limited.0
