First Steps to clearing debt

hi there i am looking at dealing with my debts in the next couple months and would like some advice..

Both me and my wife are in the following situation...

We both have bad debts going back over the past 6 years or so...it probably totals around 20k but could be as low as 15k, i have been keeping debt letters from various companys so have some of teh details for my creditors...i also got a credit report completed to see what was on my file in terms of CCJs..we have a couple of CCJs each but they are not much more than a couple of hundred each.....

Firstly is it worth clearing the CCJs?...will this improve my credit score at all?...or should i just lump them in with teh rest of my debts and offer a repayment?

next..should i offer a repayment to each company using a pro rata method with my disposalble income?..if so how much of my dispoable income should i use (should i reserve some for emergencys?..we have two children)

We have got our selves in a mess over the last 6 years and need to start addressing this...if the debt is a few years old and theres no CCJ is it even worth offering a repayment as they are not going to register anything further on my credit file and doubt they would take any further steps to recover?

Advice would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

Chris

BTW we have no credit arrangements and no assetts if that helps

  • Hi, welcome. I cannot recommend the CCCS enough they work out all your income and outgoings and then spread whats left over between your creditors, they are a charity and do not charge you interest or any fees. There phone number is 08001381111
