Euros To Pounds Or To Turkish Lira?

I have £500 worth of Euro's but I am going to Turkey. (dont asky why:confused: ) bought at 1.23 euro to the pound.

Would I be better to change the Euros before I go into pounds then into Turkish Liras, or with the Euro being stronger than the pound I've had a thought of taking the Euro's to Turkey and changing them there for Turkish Lira's.

Do you think I would be better off doing that?

Cheers Bob

The problem as I see it is that not many places will exchange straight into Turkish Lire from Euros without going through sterling.
That means losing out on the rate you have already paid for the Euros.

Have a Google or ask your holiday company if Euros are widely accepted - if so I would keep them.

I'm going to Hisaronu, my own thoughts are that the pound is weeker than the euro, so I will probably take the Euros with me and either spend them there or exchange them for Lira's.

Hisaronu slightly favours the pound, but only slightly.
You won't have a prob with Euros.

I love Olu Deniz, which is about 3 miles away, by the beach.

Swapping the EUR for TRY in Turkey (or the eurozone) would be better as only one lot of commission and spread

At today's levels you would get a rate of around 1.92 +- the agents commission

The above means, wait till you go to Turkey & swap there. I don't understand why you asked this?

OP Sterling & Euros are so widly accepted in Turkey, you will only need to change about 10% of your holiday spends. Just for little bits or the dolmus or something.

you won't need to change your euros. Most shops and restaurants etc will accept both euros and £'s. No need to change the money into Turkish lira.

I go to that area of Turkey regularly and only ever take £'s. While I'm there I change a small amount to lira for tips and the local bus (dolmus) but for the rest I just pay in £'s.

Don't miss the big market in Fethiye on Tuesdays.

Also the site-seeing day trips run by local companies in the town are great value.

    Enjoy yourself!
