tax codes

I couldnt really find any info on here about tax codes.
On my p60 for the year my tax code is 522L M1. my fellow employees are on 522L. and am just wondering what the M1 MEANS? is this emergancy tax?
I have looked on direct.gov.uk and cannot find anything about this myserious M1 and am hoping that someone can enlighten me, However I may pop into my inland revenue when i get a chance. but it would be good if someone else could assure me this is normal
Thanks
jen

522L was the normal code for 2007/8... it should be 543L for this year

522L M1 is an emergency code.. not too bad but you may have paid too much tax last year.. it means a non cumulative tax code.. did you change jobs last year without a P45? or something similar?
