State pension/ill health retirement?

I know I am going back a few years, but this has niggled me.
My husband was 65 of the 17th January 1998. This was a Saturday.
If we were wanting to have the SRP's paid into the bank, we had no choice other than to opt for it to be paid in arrears every four weeks.
My SRP is the basic pension which is paid off the back of my husband's NI Contributions. (Although I worked full time for 20 years, I paid the married women's contributions which, although initially was about 2p in the £1, finally I believe I was paying about 8% of my salary - very little less than the full NI contributions. I was not advised about this, but that is history.) Of course I was not eligible to draw a pension in my own right, because of this.
I received my first pension 4 weeks after my husband's birthday, on:
Friday13th February 1998, but my husband received his first pension on:
Friday 20th February 1998, one week later, having waited 5 weeks for his SRP!
We have both receivede them every four weeks ever since - me one week before my husband.
When I question the Pensions department about this, they said that it just depended what day of the week his birthday fell.
I can accept this, but I cannot understand why we have never been paid on the same day of the week as both SRP's are related to the same birthday and NI Contributions.
Can anyone explain this to me?
The reason for this old chestnut to be raising its head again, is because, I read this week that from 2003, all people receiving the SRP every four weeks (or indeed every 13 weeks) can opt to receive it weekly in Advance!
I read about this last week in the Saga Magazine, none of our friends had heard about it, even though we could have been benefitting from the weekly receipt of our SRP for 5 years.
We have opted to receive it weekly and as yet, it hasn't happened as I only rang them last Thursday. However, I am wondering if my husband should receive the back pay of the outstanding week that he was not initially paid.
Can anyone throw any light on this subject for me please?

If you want to switch to weekly state pension payment just call up the Pension Service and ask to switch. It's a routine matter.Trying to keep it simple...

Sleepless saver is right, you should really start a new thread = however, you may find some answers if you go through the whole of this thread and goes into the issue of payment of state pensions :

I would love to start a new thread. I was looking everywhere for the "NEW THREAD" button last night and I still can't find it.
Can someone please tell me where to look?0 -
capricorn36, you won't see the new thread button while you are looking at a thread. If you just go to the Pensions, Annuities and Retirement Planning forum you will see the New Thread button. It is situated where the Post Reply button is if you are already in a thread. Hope this helps.0
