Milk conundrum

People in my office are laughing at me openly, because I have just described how I 'made' semi-skimmed milk, so I want to see if I really am totally mad...
Here's the story:
I went to Tesco last night, and as per usual they had run out of semi-skimmed milk. So I decided to buy one pint of full-fat and one of skimmed, and mix them.
This made sense to me, right up until the moment that my colleagues fell about laughing. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Surely, if one pint has lots of fat, and one has hardly any, then mixing them will end up in the middle somewhere?
Please help me regain my standing in the office and tell me I'm right!
And if I'm not, don't laugh too loud please. :shhh:

Sounds good to me!!0

Don't see why not, does it taste like semi skimmed? I usually just buy full cream if semi has run out because skimmed just tastes like milky water to me. And full cream is nice in porridge, rice-puddings, hot chocolates and in coffee, although it's a bit full on for cereal when you are used to drinking semi skimmed.
Never thought of mixing - makes sense to me, might try it next time! Your boss should be proud to have a "thinks outside the box" employee such as yourself."The happiest of people don't necessarily have the

It does seem to make sense. Semi-skimmed is half the fat of full-fat and skimmed is virtually fatless so mixing full-fat and skimmed would give you the same fat content as two pints of semi. Wouldn't it?0

Great minds think alike!!I have done that before on several occasions.I think it shows rescourceful thinking.Your workmates will be able to see that when they stop laughing!0

It tasted fine in my coffee - not watery like skimmed, and no fat floating on the top like full-fat. It's no cheaper, but useful when they have run out - again! DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

Alas, all you've achieved is spoiling the full fat milk
Seriously though, it sure as hell sounds right. Did you ask them what they were laughing at - could you have had some spinach in your teeth? :rotfl:
Any food scientists on MSE?If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Full fat milk - 4% fat
semi-skimmed - 2% fat
skimmed milk - 0% fat
therefore mixing full fat and skimmed would give you 2 pints of.....2% fat ie semi-skimmed milk(I've done it in the past too:))

Absolutely right and you can also do this by mixing up some dried milk and adding it to full fat. It tastes fine that way whereas I can't stand reconstituted dried milk on its ownIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0
