As the title says, does anyone have a nice recipe for Bombay Potatoes?
To go with our Chicken curry on Tuesday!!!
It needs to be really cheap too!
PS. I don't normally cook either - so it will have to be in basic English and really clear!. I am a child of convienience and dont cook from scratch - but its a skill I am teaching myself!

Hiya
I normally cube potatoes and boil for about 15 mins. Put some butter in a pan and add some chopped onion, then I add curry powder/paste and a tin of cheapie chopped tomatoes. Then drain spuds and make sure there cooked..lol, add to onion, toms and spice. If its ether thick or too runny-add either water or cornflower. Simmer for a further 5 mins.
Very cheap and very easy

Sharwoods produce a booklet with lots of recipes and i always use the one in there. It's basically the same as Penny Pincher's but before you start you dry fry some mustard seeds (about 1 tbsp) in the frying pan until they start to pop then add the fat and fry the onion. This does make a difference to the flavour and the colour which i like but it's not essential. It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

I used to use the Schwartz Bombay Potatoes mix, it's about 70p per packet. The method is just how Penny-Pincher described. Now I just add curry powder & it tastes exactly the same. I like to add spinach right at the end too, especially when it's past it's best.0

The method with the paste works well and is cheap. Just a tip on cooking though. When the onions are well cooked, add the paste and make sure it fries well before adding the tomatoes and potatoes. Cooking out the flavours from the spices improves the end result considerably. Enjoy!0

i want to make bombay pots tonight . have only had them once and they were delish. but i not that keen on tomatoes. i will add them if i have to. but i sure when i last had them there wasn't any.
does anyone have a really really easy recipe that doesn't invlove them , or could i simple miss them out ??????0 -
i dont use tomatoes in mine but do sometimes put some chick peas in if i hav e asome left over, if feeling very lazy i have been known to use a pack of those frozen cubed saute potatoes that you can get in tesco (not very OS but very quick!) i add a dash of lemon juice to it as well as i like the flavour it gives, another quick curry is chick pea and spinach, make it just like bombay potatoes, but with chick peas and spinach, tinned, fresh or frozen.Member 1145 Sealed Pot Challenge No4

I have just made some of this inspired by this thread! I followed PPs method but left out tomatoes and added chopped mushrooms and shredded savoy cabbage and it was gorgeous!£2.00 Coin saver -£12.00 In Piggy bank - £150 Banked :j

Me and the family are away for the weekend, so I'm trying to use up any fresh food we have before we go.
I am planning on making a cury for dinner tomorrow, and have a load of potatoes to use up, so thought I would make Bombay potatoes as a side dish to the curry.
But..............Ive never made it before
Anyone got a quick and easy recipe for it?
Thankies in advance
