Beetles down chimney

Help! Over the last week i've found about a dozen beetles on their backs on my hearth. I've just been brave enough to pull the grate out and there's another dozen dead beetles underneath the fake coals. It's one of those gas fires that looks like a real one. It's put on about once every three months for a few minutes to burn off the dust.

Are they coming down the chimney? What do I do to get rid of them? They're just your average black beetle you find in the garden.

My first thought was light the fire, but then I noticed it's a gas fire. I don't know about gas fires, can you sweep the lumb, flue or whatever a gas chimney is called??

They are ground beetles. Who knows why they're in my house!!!

Mmmm we have no skirting boards at the moment. I wonder if they're coming up from the void under the house. Hopefully that's more likely...time for skirting boards I think!!!
