ciao - How are earnings for member ratings calculated?

Options
i have just signed up to ciao and am confused over how the ratings and then your account balance is calculated.

my ciao is this -

usefulness reads / views

somewhat helpful 6 / 11

somewhat helpful 3 / 6

helpful 5 / 7

helpful 3 / 5

somewhat helpful 5 / 8

can anyone explain to me if this gives me any earnings? My account balance is showing as 0 though. I have just signed up and put these 5 reviews on today.

I think the only bit I understand is that I will get 0.5p for the helpful reviews. so is this -

(5 + 3) * 0.5p = 4p

or

(7 + 5) * 0.5p = 6p

am I on the right track?

thanks

You will be credited for the ratings/views tomorrow. It is very slow going on Ciao, but does eventually mount up.

They update the earnings over night, so in the morning you should have some earnings in your account.
It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

The lower number is for the ratings by members, the higher number is for the total viewings which includes the total of both ratings by members and views by people who have not rated the review. It is the lower number which counts. So if one of your reviews has 5/7, then it has been rated by 5 people but viewed by a total of 7 people.

The thing about Ciao is to maximise your ratings by not only writing good reviews but by reading and rating lots of other people's reviews. The regulars won't read and rate reviews unless their reads/rates are returned. You really have to network to succeed on the site.

I always found the best way to write reviews was to write them in Word, taking my time and running a spell check etc, then to cut and paste them into the form on the Ciao site.

The other thing worth noting is that the regulars won't read and rate people who they think are "churning" - i.e. writing lots of reviews on one day. To be honest I wouldn't recommend writing more than one a day. When I was writing reviews on Ciao I only every wrote about 10 reviews, yet made quite a bit out of them (in Ciao terms) because I read a lot of other reviews and people returned the reads.

You can also make money from the Premium Fund which is doled out every month. Again, you need to be getting high ratings so it's worth reading other reviews, seeing what kind of writing gets good ratings and seeing if you can incorporate that into your reviews.
Yeah, whatever. I'm a grown up, I can take it...
