Interim Justicia

This is my first post to the MSE forums, so please forgive me if this topic has been covered before!
I've had a couple of missed calls from a company called Interim Justicia, and when I googled them it turns out they are some sort of nasty debt collection agency, which is a bit of a shocker to be honest, as I have absolutely no clue what debt they might be collecting and consequently I am now having a minor freakout wondering why on earth they might be calling me!!
Can anyone share their stories of similar experiences with this company and give me any advice on how to deal with them?
Thankyou!!

If you have ever had dealings with channel or brittania music co - they have recently been trying to claim debt payments from past customers, problem is most of the people they have been contacting don't owe them any money at all.
There is a thread on this board somewhere about it , it refers to britannia music co.0 -
fair bit of reading here

Thankyou so much for the replies! I've been doing a bit more google research and I'm wondering whether the many stories I've seen about ebay and paypal might have something to do with it, as I have been doing a bit of buying on Ebay for the first time recently, altho everything is all paid up and gone through fine as far as I'm aware. God now I'm really having a panic!!0

So, I've now received a letter from these people, after one further missed call, and if I was of a more nervous disposition I would now be in rather a large panic! The letter is headlined "Notice of Intended Legal Action" and is for a debt I didn't even realise I had, from British Gas. I've phoned British Gas to confirm that I have closed my account and paid in full etc etc, and am waiting for a phone call back from them to say that it's all been a massive mistake, but does anyone have any suggestions what I should do with this letter from Intrum Justitia in the meantime? I'll be perfectly honest, it has freaked me out a little!! Thankyou!0

Hi there be very careful with British Gas and these people, I had a run in with this company a few years ago acting on behalf of British Gas, they both said I owed them over £500 for electric for a flat I lived in for a couple of years. I rang and explained to British Gas that I did not use British Gas for electric for this flat and that I paid all my electric through a local electric company. I moved out of the flat and moved further north. 2 moves and 4 years later I received a demand for the amount for British Gas. I rang and spoke to British gas and asked when the bill was for, they told me that it was for dates after I had moved out of the flat. I explained that I didnt live in the flat to British gas, and when they asked me when I did live there I stupidly told them the dates, the next thing I receive through the post was an updated demand with the dates changed to when I lived there. I checked with the electric company I used and they verified they supplied the electric and that the account was paid in full.
After numerous calls:mad: and a lot of threatening letters  from Intrim and threats and calls to take me to court I decided to pay the amount and get rid of them. I know it was someone elses debt but to stop the calls and letters I gave in. I do realise now with hind sight that this was the wrong thing to do but at the time I just wanted to get rid of them.
I will NEVER EVER use or even think of using British Gas or British Telecom (similar problem) ever again :mad::mad::mad::mad:0 -

I had a similar problem with British Gas, chasing me for a £900, bill and I was not even their customer. Considering I had a key meter and was with Npower at the time, this was very frustrating for me. I had a DCA chasing me and had to explain no debt on any of my accounts. This did get sorted out in the end after some very threatening letters from myself.
I know exactly how you feel when you say you will never have an account with BG.
Intrim Justica are chasing me for a DWP debt that is so old. I am just going to let that one sit - I can't be asked right now.
BBOriginal debt at LBM July 2008, £47, 654.34. Debt at January 2016, £21,443. Barclaycard [STRIKE]£9,000[/STRIKE]£8,756, Tesco cc [STRIKE]£3000[/STRIKE]£1,136. Debenhams storecard [STRIKE]£350[/STRIKE]£263, OD [STRIKE]£3,500[/STRIKE] £3,000, Corp Tax £3,036, Study loan £1,750, Smaller debts £2,000.
Since my LBM I have not been fully committed so now I have had a 2nd LBM.
Aiming to be debt free by December 2016:D0 -
For anyone else in these situations who might be reading this thread or in the future. DO NOT PAY A DEBT THAT ISN'T YOURS!!! Especially if you KNOW it's not yours.
Send this letter in the first instance:Dear Sir/Madam
Account no:
You have contacted me/us regarding the account with the above reference number, which you claim is owed by myself/ourselves.
I/we would point out that I/we have no knowledge of any such debt being owed to (insert company name).
I am/we are familiar with the Office of Fair Trading Debt Collection Guidance which states that it unfair to send demands for payment to an individual when it is uncertain that they are the debtor in question.
I/we would also point out that the OFT say under the Guidance that it is unfair to pursue third parties for payment when they are not liable. In not ceasing collection activity whilst investigating a reasonably queried or disputed debt you are using deceptive/and or unfair methods.
Furthermore ignoring and/or disregarding claims that debts have been settled or are disputed and continuing to make unjustified demands for payment amounts to physical/psychological harassment.
I/we would ask that no further contact be made concerning the above account unless you can provide evidence as to my/our liability for the debt in question.
I/we await your written confirmation that this matter is now closed. Otherwise I will have no option but to make a complaint to the trading standards department and consider informing the OFT of your actions.
I/we look forward to your reply.
Yours faithfully

That's the whole idea here, really 'debt I never knew I had'. Watchdog did a very good report on this (several times) recently.
If someone came up to you in the street, demanded money off you, saying you owed them money would you give it to them??Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.

Hi i to are having some very rude phone calls from this company about a 14 year old debt from the department of work and pensions. Thay seam to think that i have been over paid when i claimed for around six weeks the grand some of £550 if the DWP was that hard up for the cash should they have got in touch a lot sooner or as it's them can they try and get it back whenever. I have been paying national ins for a lot longer than this just take it out of that or don't they think i'll live that long to collect. No they have to get this company in to do there dirty work for them I wonder if any of there employies have ever had a hard time and a debt company keeps ring them at work, home every two days twice or three times a day. Sorry to rant on but these people just don't know how hard it is trying to pay bill after bill working all day for not a lot.0
