I got the following email from Transport for London this morning:
It is linked to a scheme called Bikeability which I think is nationwide so there nmay be freebies available elsewhere too, not just in London.

TfL is working with the London Boroughs and Cycling England to provide training. Our aim is to offer free or subsidised training to children and adults through quality courses provided by accredited instructors. To find out how to contact your local training officer please click hereAlso taking place this month is the TfL London Workplace Cycle Challenge. I went through the link and contacted the named representative for my borough, who told me I would qualify for a free 2hr one-to-one session of cycle training (which I really need - I have a bike but am not confident to cycle on on the roads). The training in my case is bookable online, but it's done through various providers and you have to go through the right one for the borough you live in.

Hope this helps somebody! (Board guides: hope this is in the right place, I thought about putting it on Travel, Trips and Holidays or on the Green board but thought it was best to put it here. Please feel free to move it if you don't agree.)

I did one of these courses. It was £15 for three 1 and a half hour sessions. It was very good and really increased my confidence on the road. I might do another soon! Oh and you get to wear a tabard!!:rotfl:£2019 in 2019 #44 - 864.06/20190
