Money owing to me not been paid

Hi and thanks for taking the time to read this post.

I am waiting for a cheque from a respectable source who held back some of the money they owed us to make sure all bills was paid before they released the final payment.

I have contacted them a couple of times to see whats happening and they sent me a letter saying *i dont owe such and such and blah blah has been paid(wasnt much) but X and Y are arguing as to how much i owe them* We will let you know as soon as.
My question is how long do you good people think is a reasonable time to wait for my money ?

there is no question this company is poor or in trouble and the money has been promised with 5% interest when paid just wondering how long would others wait.

It is a reasonable sum and a reasonable time but i belive that has no significant factor in this .

hope you can help thanks

If you have no contract with X or Y, or X and Y are not mentioned in your contract then it's none of your business when they get paid by the company that owes you payment.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

    thanks for getting back

heres a bit of the problem
Received a substanstial cheque from solicitors with x amount of money held back to pay fees from experts /barristers/ legal services etc that will not be covered by (the other side)
So experts have said we owe them nowt (all covered by other side)
legal services we owe that is not covered by (the other side) will be a few hundered quid for work above and beyond which is fine.
But the Q.C (barristers) have stated they want X and (the other side) say it should be Y and will only pay Y out which means we need to find the difference from the retainer kept back from the first cheque. We have been told that it ranges from between £5K & £8K which is a lot of money but even the max with a few hundered to the Legal Services will still be less than 10K and that is a smallish amount of the retainer kept back in the first place.

how long is a reasonable time to wait ????
