writing for a local paper

Someone suggested I try this to earn some extra cash. Anyone done it? Not sure what the protocol is for getting started. Feel a bit uncomfortable about just writing something and sending it. Presumably, in such cases, the chances of either being told to get stuffed or just laughed at by editorial staff is quite high. Any advice welcome. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure of the correct procedure - however I wrote an IT article and sent it to the editor of my local rag on Monday. I've not heard anything back yet...0 -
