They do actually send them there, this is an image of one of two Mars names disks on Mars: http://spacekids.hq.nasa.gov/2003/disk.htm
You can also check up on past similar missions and find your names. Later they update the mission name sites and allow you to download a mission complete/landing certificate. Check my old posts on the same here: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=842136&postcount=9

bit upset, put on my sons name but pdf wouldnt load then disappeared. do you think ill have to add his name again or can i find it?

His name will be on there, the name finder part isn't up and running yet I guess like the other missions. You could just try again, but maybe the same will happen if your system has issues with pdf. Make sure your browser's pdf plugin is updated, try first on another pdf site and once that works try again. Of course his name will then be on there twice, but I wouldn't worry about it.
