Wedding Venue Berkshire

Hi Guys!

My lovely fiance proposed to me in August last year, and we said from the beginning that we didnt want a long engagement - looking at April 2009 for the wedding initially. We then decided to buy our first house, which we did in December. It has been a real struggle to manage the mortgage and bills etc (the same as everyone else!), so haven't been in a position to arrange anything for the weding :(
We have looked at a couple of lovely venues, for the ceremony and reception in one place (we are not religious, so would feel a bit hypocrytical getting married in a church), but realistically they are way out of our price range.
So, what I'm really asking is:

Does anyone have any suggestions for venues around the Reading/Berkshire area?

Can anyone suggest any cost cutting ideas (I know there are a few threads elsewhere)

And where do I start?!

I love my fiance, and would dearly love to marry him today - but as usual, money is an issue! lol
:kisses2: Live for today, save for tomorrow! :j

Hi Rockinrach, didn't want to think that you had been ignored. Please can you let me have an idea of your budget and then I will surf the Net to look for a possible suitable venue.

    Hello

How far out of reading do you want to go to? A friend of mine got married in a hotel and had her receiption there. The wedding "breakfast" (I think thats whats its called) was about £30 a head, and they did a good deal on a drinks package and buffet for the evening, im sure some places in reading would do this.
    £2 Savers club £0/£150
    1p a day £/

    I have found these:

    The Olde Bell
    High Street
    Hurley
    Maidenhead

https://www.theoldebell.co.uk (you can marry there too)

    Also

    The Mill House Hotel
    Wokingham

https://www.themillhousehotel.co.uk (another place where you can marry and hold your reception)

Not knowing Reading, I don't know how close these places are.

    What about the New Mill?

    I haven't been there but I've heard it's very nice and I don't think it's too expensive.

That's my venue!!! We fell in love with the place the moment we set eyes on it so knew it had to be our venue. It really depends on your budget though as it's £1,500 to hire and you're looking at about £7,500 minimum spend if you want a Saturday.

We also looked at Wellington College, Sand Martins Golf Club, The Mill House Hotel, Easthampstead Park and others that I can't really remember. All of these would have worked out cheaper than the new mill. We're having a church wedding so some of them might not be suitable for you. Good luck!

I have sent off for a brochure for the new mill, will have a look at the other suggestions. We looked around Heckfied place which I think was in Hook - it was gorgeous! will have to save the pennies, and hopefully we'll get there one day! :)

I was going to post my venue, Phyllis Court in Henley but I just looked at thier website and see they now have expensive pacakges rather than the room hire plus meal cost that we have got! guess they are now in line with other places locally but I'm very glad we booked before they changed the packages! We are paying £43 a head for a three-course meal plus coffee and petits fours, and £850 room hire but it isn;t that 'cheap' now.
