How could they ever find out..?

If I changed my residential mortgage to a buy to let mortgage on a property where my mother lives, and didn't disclose she was a relative as she has a different name, how could they ever find out..? And what is the worst that could happen if they did? Surely all they care about is the repayments..?

True - probably won't matter. But if something goes wrong somewhere and you have lied on the application form and you get found out it doesn't help your case.
And it's probably very easy to find out that she's a relative.

Lets face it - they aren't going to check every detail on the application and probably they will never bother checking but if they have cause to ....
  • You might get away with this particular fraud.
Then you might try something more ambitious.
