I am a photographer and have done a few weddings and I have to say its a real buzz! You cannot relax for one minute, always something going on or something to organise. I would suggest anyone having a wedding to find out of their photographer has an assistant as its not possible to cover everything using just one guy, of course that depends on your requirements. I'm based in London can be PM'd for advice or questions.

    Cheers

I've been a keen amateur photographer for over 40 years and I have always insisted that I would never take on a professional assignment because it would be too much pressure and spoil the hobby aspect of photography for me.

As I approached retirement two years ago, I spent over £30,000 on several Nikon Pro digital bodies and top of the range lenses ... and I'm having a ball with them.

A few months ago, our neighbours were getting married and asked me if I would do the photography for the occasion. Sticking to my principles, I politely declined the request so they hired a 'professional photographer'. I felt a little mean and since we were invited to the wedding and reception anyway, I later offered to take my camera along on the day to take a few amateur shots.

Just as well I did. The so called professional's results turned out to be totally awful (that's the polite version) but my results received accolades from the happy couple and all the attendees at the wedding. I didn't ask for a penny for my efforts, the smiles on people's faces when they saw my photos was reward enough. But the moral of the story is .... always have a backup when recording an important once-in-a-lifetime day.

    Dave.

This is not spam as I make no money from my hobby, but if you enjoy looking at other people's photos, you are more than welcome to visit my galleries at http://www.pbase.com/davecq

Still thinking about this - after reading these interesting comments I realise its a big risk. Sorry I don't live near Wellingborough.
