Writing your own will

Hello everybody
I very much hope that someone will be able to help me. My Fiancee (soon to be wife ) are about to buy a house together and one of the things we have to sort out is our wills. Being an avid reader of this forum and always looking for a way to save money I though 'how hard can it be to write that our selves' we have some assets we would leave to each other, and no children.
So it should just be a matter of making each other the sole beneficiary of each others will and in the event of both our deaths dividing up the assets equally between our respective families.
Does any one on this board have any experience in creating these kinds of legal documents ? and if so know where I can get a template that already has all the legal eee's in it already.

I have written on this subject before - purely my opinion but this is something that should be done by the professionals.
Just for argument's sake taking a part sentence from your posting ''dividing up assets equally between our respective families'' - how do you define family??
Your definition might be different to your future wife etc etc.0 -
I managed to get wills for both myself and husband for free through my union at work. Hubbies different union would have done the same as well .Obviously this varies for individuals but it's worth investigating.Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20

It's not that simple. Assets owned jointly will automatically pass to the surviving spouse whatever the will says. The surviving spouse could change their will afterwards. Whatever the will says, there are also laws which take precedence. A simple will like the one you mention will only work if you both die together. Take proper advice.0

The post office sell will forms for about £4 - they have most of it filled and and you just add details where necessary. Obviously not as good as getting it done professionally but much cheaper and I think better than trying to do it all yourself.
Remember that the law is completely different north and south of the border so make sure you chose the correct forms.
I can offer limited advice on the scots law of succession and how it works if you wish xx0 -
i have bn looking into this aswell, ive found a book in whsmiths which inlude templates and a cd rom its called Last Will & Testament by Leolin Price and others.
