Unemployed and in debt

Hi everyone, wondered if any of you had any advice as i am desperate.
I recently moved and lost my job so i am unemployed and looking for work, i get JSA but i am in debt just over 5,000.
I went to CAB and they told me they couldnt make an appointment there and i had to ring up which i have been trying to do for weeks, no-one answers and they dont reply to your messages. So i went to national debtline and they suggested writing to each creditor explaining my situation and sending a budget sheet which i did. I got mostly all negative replies no-one wants to accept my offers and one creditor said they are giving my details to a debt collector and they will be sending me a default notice.
I used to pay my debts with a DMP which was so much easier but when i became unemployed i asked if i could lower my payments and the lowest they would accept was 120.00 and when i looked into it not much of my debt had been paid off.
My partner works, but he works for contractors so sometimes theres a full wks work and sometimes theres hardly any, he is paying all the bills and i cant help at all. So between us we have no money left at all, we dont buy things for ourselves, ive not been able to afford a hair cut in months, i cant even get together 28.00 for a train ticket to see my family, ive not seen my mum or dad or anyone for nearly 2months.
I also owe money to my family, over 200.00. I owe money 2 ebay as i tried to sell somethings on there but now they want me to pay the fee's.
I wanted a DMP where i wasn't charged any fee's as its getting me so down and worried keep getting letters etc ive suffered from depression in the past and do not want to get depressed again, but things are really hard.
I contacted CCCS and they advised me to do the budget and write to creditors which i am doing. I dont know what else to do, im only 24, my life is just a misery right now.
Ever bill is paid late, were always in arrears with the council tax, we dont go out anymore as we cant even afford one drink in a pub.
All the debts are in my name and we opened way before i met my partner, but it is getting him down too.
Anyone got any advice, please??
Thanks

    HI

Sorry to hear you are in this horrible situation.

Well done on contacting CCCS. They would be the best people to go with as they are a charity. To what they say regarding the letters etc.

It would also help if you posted an SOA (statement of affairs) of all of your incomings and outgoings, including your debts, their APRs and minimum payments. That way the great people on here can have a lookise and see if they can suggest anything.

Is there no way you can get a job for the in-between time until you find a better one? Any money coming in is better than no money? Might be worth having a look around and seeing what you could do.

Sorry i havent been much help.

hi thanks for replying. I m trying so hard to find a job, i want one in catering but that seems impossible around here so im applying for everything ive been to a few interviews and not got the job even been turned down for mac donalds and a cleaning job, surely im not that unemployable!!?! I dont have many qualifications jst GCSE's.
An SOA is that like the budget sheet i sent to my creditors?
When i do this should i put my ingoings and outgoings or mine and my partners as all the debts r in my name and were taken out way before we met.

    Hi Kailey

Good on you for applying for all jobs. Could it be possible to do a pub job say in the meantime? (not sure if its cheeky or not but some still do cash in hand?).

Yep your SOA would be your budget sheet.

If your partner is paying the bills etc. then maybe say on the SOA that these are paid for by your partner at the moment? But still put down his income and what he spends out on (if that makes sense?).

Just so that we can see what you (as in you and your partner) are paying out in a month. Maybe use different colours to show your debts and his debts etc.

    :o

In that case i would base it on the lowest pay, that way you know you will be definitely covered if he doesnt get paid the highest.

Ok from just your income of JSA and your mobile and credit debts. You have a spare amount of £107.80.
I think you need to keep a spending diary and see where this money is going.

If you look at the beginning of the board there is a SOA link. This asks about apr % on credit amounts. If you included these then once you can account for the missing JSA money the clever people (a lot clever than me) could advise what to pay off first.

    MY JSA: 191.80

    Rent: 320.00
Council Tax: 94.00 - could this be spread out over 12 months instead of 10?
    TV License: 11.66
Sky/Internet: 27.00 - could this be cut down? Bare min package for sky is £17 or £19 with sky broadband free?
    Phone: 11.00
    Gas/Electric: 50.00

Food/shopping: 240.00 - could you try and cut this down, meal planning etc.
    Public Transport: 80.00
Work Meals: 100.00 - ?? could he take a packed lunch? Save £100 is a lot of money!
    Pet food: 17.00
    Other: 37.00

Mobile: 40.00 - could you reduce your tariff? Maybe get a PAYG one?

    Wescot: 40.00

Other than the above suggestions it seems the only real way is to find a job. I know you said you are trying which is great.

Maybe give your bank a call as well (if you havent already done so) and explain that you are unemployed. They may be able to be a bit sympathetic, but try not to get any more credit out (you would be surprised! i got offered a loan when i was made redundant   ).

And the only other thing is to sit tight really and see what the creditors come back with.

    xx
