thanks all for taking the time to reply.

If you don't go to your Mums on Saturday just put £12 into the car and put the other £3 into your meter. You really don't want to be left with no Leccy.
Sorry if it sounds a bit obvious but i've had many times i've had to juggle money about until the next "money day" so I know what its likeHow does a brown cow give white milk, when it only eats green grass?0 -
right done my list, not exactly very happy, as i dont know where i got £55 from, i checked bank have £38 in there and 10 quid in my pocket, so £48. ok car has 38 miles left in tank, which isnt really 38 miles more 20 id say. i dont go out unless i have to, just had to post ebay stuff, lucky they now do postage through paypal, so didnt have to pay this as well. ive £2 left in paypal, so no use to me.thanks all for taking the time to reply.

my shopping list work out at £40, so £8 left for diesel to get me shopping and work on sunday. not a lot in other words0 -
hi all,
my husband only got paid SSP this month as he has been ill for 2 months. he is now back at work, but as we had little money this month, and no money to pay my mortgage at all, we have dwindled down to £55 left to last until i get child tax credit next tuesday. i will have to get £15 of diesel, this is to get me to get the shopping, and to work on sunday, and probably to my mums on saturday(50 mile round trip), but i do eat there......... running on vapours! so ive got £40 to get 4 days dinners, school and work food, 24 pints of milk( a baby and a toddler, i need a cow). normally TRY to spend about £60 a week. too embarrassed to ask for any money. have nothing left to sell of any value(did that last month to live). looks like a value week this week
Sorry to but in on your thread and I don't want to panic you but make sure you get some fuel soon. Don't know if you have seen the headlines on Sky News today but there is almost certainly going to be a four day tanker driver strike starting on friday. I assume people are going to start panic buying at the pumps and as you seem to have a way to drive I would make sure you get some sooner than later. I know people shouldn't panic buy and those that say you shoudln't are mainly the ones with a full tank of petrol/diesel!

Hi melie,
It must be really difficult for you, especially as your husband has been ill lately but as miserly mum said I'd give the visit to your mum's a miss and add any leftover cash into the meter so that the electricity doesn't run out.
I know it's probably not what you usually buy but I've had a look at your shopping list and think you could get what you want down to under £25. I only looked at tesco but you might have somewhere cheaper (lidl or aldi) nearby. Value food isn't always ideal but for one week if it helps to keep your head above water it won't do any harm.
If you have a look for Cheap (low cost) recipes here there are threads with ideas for cheaper meals that might help for the night you haven't planned for.
Good luck!
Pinki agree £40 is plenty... when youve nothing else to buy. cat has his food so ok there.
this is what i will need.
toilet rolls will have to be value pack tesco value loo rolls 38p
food for work school.. meat, tuna. crisps if i can stretch it. value ham 250g 86p value tuna chunks 37p x2 = 74p crisps I don’t know how many you need but look at the value range ready salted 51p for a 12 pack
4 loaves of danish tesco white thick sliced Danish loaf 39p 4 loaves = £1.56
3 six pinter milks 3 x six pinter milks £5

box of rice value rice 1kg 95p
chicken large large chicken £7.30 but maybe look for chicken thighs because they’re cheaper per kilo and you can still use the bones to make soup or could you buy stewing steak, mince, pork (would go well with the sweet and sour) or other cheap cuts of meat just for this week.
mushrooms value mushrooms 750g £1.47
pastry for pie pastry for pie 86p or make your own if you have flour and margarine in it costs very little.
washing up liquid Tesco standard washing up liquid 44p

Just to add to Pink's post above, Sainsbugs are doing 2 chickens for £6 at the moment, you could feed your family for several days on these.0

If your husband is waiting for his exemption card, wouldn't the pharmacist know anyway he was exempt if it was for diabetic medicine? My pharmacist knows I am exempt too because I pick up thyroid medicine and don't need to show my card to prove it. Might be worth speaking to the pharmacy first and explain the situation instead of having to wait.
Good luck this week.0 -

yes im buying 2 this week, which makes four dinners. we are having a curry thurs sandwiches with leftovers for work etc, sunday sweet and sour chicken and a chicken pie monday. i wouldnt normally have so much chicken in a week, although i love it, but gotta do what i gotta do. thats the thing as well, i could get pretty much everything at asda, but sainsburys have the chicks and tesco have maris pipers on offer.0 -
thanks for doing that pink, ive lidls and aldi all a car drive away, is it going to pay me though to go around all these places, to use more fuel, not sure if im saving anything. asda is nearest to me, but they dont have everything, and sains have the chicks on offer which ive been buyong for a few wks. ive got £12 saved on nectar points, but i was hoping to save these for xmas ( collecting since jan) and in my jar ive got £20 in change, but again saving this since jan, seems a shame to use it up, i know i could do with it. to change up the change to notes, so you savvy peeps use coinstar?? i know they charge but dont know how much? does anyone know this?Pink-winged wrote: »Hi melie,

I think coinstar takes out 7.5p per £1, it would probably be better for you to count it up and take it to the bank yourself x0
