Junk food junkie

I'm posting this here because I see a cutting down alcohol support thread and I need help cutting down on junk food.

I do all my shopping sensibly to a budget, but there is a little shop at the end of my road that is open till 10pm every night, and at least once a week I go and buy a big bag of crisps and a big bag of sweets, and its costing me plenty, sometimes I buy twice this much, sometimes I go 2 times a week.

Plus is bad for my waist-line and general health.

Any other junkfood junkies out there

You remind me of myself as there is a little shop that I routinely go to for snacks you should try cutting down like I use to buy snacks every day and now I have two slices of chocolate cheese cake a week! Good luck

Not junk food as such - but I really struggle to walk past a Starbucks - They have a new Coffee/Caramel Frapuccino which on a hot day is extremely hard to resist.

Fortunately for me their isn't one locally so it's a rare treat.

Try working in a little shop like that!

15 hours a day staring at 30 metres of shelving covered in chocolatey goodness, little tubs of penny mix and bags of crunchy, crunchy crisps!

And there you are, stood eating a piece of fruit, trying to pretend you wouldn't give your right arm for the chance to lock the door and dive head first into the fizzy cola bottles.

Couldn't do it by the end of a 15 hour shift, it would be an empty shelf and I'd be the size of a house. LOL

Hey everyone! My problem is that if sweet stuff is in the house (usually from my MIL who empties her cupboards every so often!) I will eat it! If it's not in the house I don't even think about it! My DH used to have a secret stash of sweets and crisps and deep down I wish I had one too! What I try to do is keep my hands busy, whether it's typing on here or maybe doing some knitting, as boredom is the worst threat as it gets you thinking!

At least Lindsay you only go once a week, it might get a real addiction if it becomes 7 times a week!!

i don't buy junk very often but my issue is i live on a main street and you would not believe how many chippy's pizza places, curry houses, chinese there are less than 1 min walk away
i joined slimming world about 8 months ago so i've got a lot better but i still let myself have a treat at the weekend so i don't feel deprived.
having said that i'm sat here eating a tub of ben & jerry's, but it's medicinal as i had a tooth out today so it's easing the pain & swelling (honest :D)

    Hi,

It's always the tasty stuff that's bad for us!!! Who ever got fat eating brussel sprouts???

I find that exercise is a good antidote to the temptation of eating junk food. After a workout I have little desire to eat the bad stuff as I feel good and also don't want to undo the good work I've done.

That said, a burger sounds pretty good right now.

    Good luck!

You could try looking into the GI diet, or at least finding out a bit more about low GI and high GI foods - the theory is that high GI foods are absorbed quickly and give you a sugary high, so when that drops you crave more sugary foods etc. So things that are low GI release energy more slowly and don't leave you with cravings. Perhaps you could try to shop for snacks that are a bit more filling - nuts, dark chocolate - and hopefully eat a bit less of them.

The other thing you could try is keeping a cornershop diary, where you write down what you've bought and what you spent - if it is there in black and white it might help you resist temptation!

I'm a real sugar junkie. It used to be chocolate but now its sweets. I love kiddies mixtures & fizzy sweets. I eat so many fizzy ones that sometimes the skin on my gums peels off.
I gave up alcohol not so long ago & I guess its related.
