But surely if you are training, then you are employed? In which case your contract has started!I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0 -
Thanks, I dont really know what to do, I really want this job and tbh need it so i dont want to rock the boat, but if my CRB is not back by the 19th June I miss the June pay day.

You're not a wimp. It is easy for an outsider to say you need to tell them this, that and the other when it's not my job and livelyhood at stake! Its easy to encourage others to rock the boat, but then if I was in your position I would be saying the same as you!
You could always bring this farce to their attention in the future, after you've got your feet under the table and need a favour from them. Like you need a day off to look after a sick kid - 'well, I went two months without pay back then, so you can cope without me for a couple of days now!' That doesn't sort your financial position out at the moment, though, I'm afraid! But even if a CRB check comes back unsatisfactory, they will still have to pay that person for the training they've attended?I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0 -

Are you in a union? If not, I'd join ...Signature removed for peace of mind0

Possibly Unison is your best, but don't take my word for that.
They charge, it's probably based on your salary, and as that's very small at the moment shouldn't cost a lot. You get benefits like discounts on things which may save you money, but the main thing is when you are in the poop, they will (or should) support and represent you.
I would think it would be worth a phone call along the lines of "I'm not sure if Unison is the right union for me, this is my job, this is who I work for, and I have a little query right now ..."
Also, as you have already spoken to ACAS, I might put in writing what I have been told, and post it off to the HR department. Or to your manager, I don't really know, she's only telling you what she's been told, but we think what she is being told is just plain wrong!
I do remember having a temp working for me once, and discovering that if we went down the usual route for paying temps then they would not be working a month in hand like normal employees, but TWO months in hand. I said, very politely, that there was no way this lady would stay on the job if she wasn't being paid at the end of the month like the rest of us, she had a family to feed and no-one had told her (or me) about this ridiculous system. They sorted it out ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
