Advisable drinking levels

Is it advisible to be drinking between 3 - 5 pints of medium strength beer everynight? Not only physically but mentally as well.

I do enjoy drinking at home and at the pub, (I live with my partner so I am not drinking alone)

I was just wondering of the long term side effects of drinking beer every night. It's not excessive and I dont purposely drink to get lashed, I enjoy drinking my beer. I am just concerned about the effect it could have on my health now and for the future?

All the best.
Alex

no its definatly not advisable to be drinking that amount of alcohol every night, it is well over the safe limits that are recommended.
try having at least one or two alcohol free nights a week
i am not a medical person, but i do know that alcohol causes memory loss and depression, as well as damage to the liver.
not having a go or anything cos i used to drink similar amounts, and became dependant on it, and found it hard to relax without a drink
    take care

Guess the governments new drink awareness campaign isnt working then

As a recovering alkie I can only say you are killing yourself. As for long term effects well Ive been tested for alzheimers as I have memory and learning problems (much more then is normal for age), my teeth are rotting in my head,my heart is enlarged. Also whilst i was drinking had high blood pressure, suffered severe heartburn and gastric problems including bleeds.I also regularly had accidents such as tripping over, falling down stairs etc and on many occasions put myself at risk by being drunk

    I also never drank alone.
I also never intended to go out and get lashed
    I really enjoyed my drink

well, if you are averaging say 4 beers a night, that's about 7 units a day, equating to 49 a week - far higher than the recommended amount

Sorry, but 3-5 pints every night IS excessive. As well as the effects Suki has mentioned long term excessive alcohol consumption can cause deficency of B vitamins. This can lead to Wernicke's encephalopathy and Korsakoff's psychosis. Alcohol also has lots of calories, so excessive intake can lead to weight gain with all the problems that that can entail.

Other problems associated with excessive alcohol consumption include pancreatitis, which is very painful, and liver damage. Your liver is a vitally important organ as it metabolises chemicals in the body. If your liver fails you don't live very long unless you get a transplant.

dude there is nothing wrong with enjoying a beer or two, but a couple of pints a night is overdoing it. you're setting yourself up for some serious health problems.

as a compromise, why not drink less but drink better? spend some of the money you will save by not drinking so much on better quality stuff. try real ales, or different ciders etc, whatever your poison may be. maybe give home brew a crack if you are so inclined (theres a fab picture thread on old style at the mo if you want a nosey)

Try alchohol free beer. What you are doing is excessive and will cause many problems later. Not least your sex life will go when you cant find it under the beer gut
Who I am is not important. What I do is.
