We have cut back on energy in a big way,my eldest son was spending an hour in the shower everyday:eek: ,we have a combi boiler and there is a switch to turn off the boiler,my son was told he could only have a five minute shower each day,he decided to carry on with the long showers so we now switch the boiler off after five minutes and he gets blasted with icy cold water(you should hear the screams):rotfl:guess what! he now has five minute showers and I have provided a five minute egg timer so he doesnt forget.

Enrol them in the navy ! Make them shower together !

Increase their rent ! Make them buy their own booze and fags . SORRY just kidding . But you should sit them down and explain the situation , and tell them they have to cut down on things . £3 pound a week spend by them , and given to you will mean £72 a quarter extra . With all the increases we all face , it is very little to ask . good luck

I do agree with this. Get them to check the meter with you to see how fast it whizzez round. Then switch everything off and check it again.

Sometimes it is necessary to be honest and up front with the cost of things and we are being bombarded with information on how costs for everything - especially electricity and gas - are going up.

It is never easy with kids, but sometimes you have to say ENOUGH and take away the toys and gizmos they like so much.

    Good luck!

  • Wow - it seems that a lot of problems with electricity bills, here's some advice:

    1. Be energy effecient - with cost-free or minimum outlay you really will be able to making some serious long term savings.
    2. Get an energy monitor - it plus into where the supply connects inside your property and you'll be able to see how much you are using.
    3. Look on your bill and see what unit rate you are paying, chances are it will be more than you think.
    4. Visit a comparison website and find the best deal for you and your usage.
    5. Sign up to a fixed price long term contract so you can secure your price in a climate of predicted price rises.
    6. Use an online tariff and DD method of payment to make the most savings.

    Good luck!!
