First of all, you should consider what weight of caravan your car is capable of towing safely.
Then take your time and visit as many dealers, you can, have a good look roud at the different models / layouts available within your limits. Once you've got a better idea, you can start trawling private ads and the like.
A fixed bed may suit some people, and although they are 'fashionable' at the moment, they certainly aren't to everyone's taste.
Personally I would rather have more room in the van for daytime. We always use our van on sites with showers and toilets, so a large bathroom with walk in shower, is just wasted space to us.
Think about what you will want to use the caravan for, and take it from there.
Also if you know someone who is an experienced caravanner take them along for advice if you can, there are a lot of vans out there which look great, but can be suffering from damp. Try buying a magazine such as practical caravan for more tips and ideas. Always bear in mind that you will need lots of accessories and equipment in addition to buying the van, which can get quite expensive!
All this sounds quite negative, but I'm not trying to put you off! Go for it, You'll love the freedom and experience, we do!:rotfl:0
