I want new running trainers..

...but haven't got the first clue about them! All I know is my current (old) running shoes are making my toes sore and my knees ache, presumable from the impact factor as I've been recently road running. I'm not a long distance runner and have only recently taken up running for a Race for life and to get in shape.
Having looked online there's all sorts of stuff about cushioning and traction and being a neutral etc kind of runner and I haven't got the foggiest.
Ideally looking to spend under £40 inc delivery and want some advice on the best thing to go for!

Few details about me..
I'm 5"9 and 10st 12
Run max 5km
Mixture of road running and off road

Any advice/recommendations?

    Hello

I recommend "New Balance" trainers- they are lovely, lightweight and comfortable to run in. I would suggest looking at their website-

find a model that fits your need, and google it for the best price

I would go to a local specialist running shop if possible - some of them have running machines in the shop where they video you running and assess the type of gait you have. You don't have to buy the shoes in that shop, you could always say you'll think about it and then google for a cheaper price at home, maybe ask them to price match. Alternatively, do the wet foot test to see what type of shoe you need:

Changing to shoes for overpronation cured my knee aches overnight.
Once you know the type of shoe you want/which brands feel comfortable on your feet, look on the runners world website for special offer ads. It's always a bit of a risk buying online without trying the shoe on first though, but usually much cheaper.
