Hello all,
Could I please ask for some experts to help please?
I have just got down my buggy which has been sat in the loft for 4/5 years. There are no mould patches but the thing smells really badly. I have taken off the covers which are removable and washed them but the smell is still there. There are also additional covers which are fixed.
So what can I use to clean the removable and fixed covers to get rid of the smell and let me use the buggy again? I thought I remember seeing something on TV about using some powder and then hoovering it off...mm, that's not much help is it?
Many thanks in advance,
Floxxie

There's an older thread here - bringing a pram to life. I'll add yours to it later.
I'd suggest washing the pram with a solution of bleach, rinsing well, and leaving out in the sunshine to dry.

I would try this:

I bought some when we got our puppy to get rid of the 'accident' smells but I hardly used it, she was a little angel.
If it can take away the smell of dog pee etc I am sure it will take away the smell you have on your pram.
I bought mine from Pets at Home, I think it was about £6.50 but I did buy the larger bottle.

You just spray it on land let it dry, no need to do anything else.0 -
rug doctor also so a similer one.
i would just suggest giving it a very good scrub with a cheap washing up brush and using washing liquid etc taking care to rinse well (taking buggy to shower may be a good idea) and then leaving it in the nice weather to air and dry, sprays would be good but im assumeing buggy will be in contact with a newborn so it may not be great to the skin
the powder you put on and hoover off may well be shake n vac, in my pre os days (and one of my first posts on here shocked most) i was using cans of that stuff weekly, its not something i would now consider bringing into my houseDFW nerd club number 039'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' :money: i will be debt free aug 2010

Thank you to everybody who responded!
I have a questions - would a solution that included bleach damage the material at all? Would it be suitable for a baby (although thinking about some of these disinfectant sprays that you can get, I suppose it would..)
When I was first trying to think about the powder that you put on and then hoover off, my first thought was Shake n Vac (do they still sell this? we were always too poor to buy any) but I think I saw it on the 'How Clean is your House?' so it probably was bicarb and they added a couple of drops of tea tree oil (I might have made that bit up).
Anyway, I washed the buggy down with washing up liquid earlier and left it in the sun for the day...it still smells although not so bad so I am leaving it out overnight and then will tackle it again tomorrow as it is meant to be another nice day.
I shall take a look at the older thread as well.

when i had my DS 4 years ago i went through the same thing, but i realised my fitted buggy covers were actually fitted by screws that i could undo and take off i then popped mine in a delicates wash to make sure it did not shrink and popped back on.
This may or may not be the case for you? do look though and if it is just remember how and where the screws go.Still TryingGrocery challenge July 2016

Hi! We had a musty buggy from freecycle which we took in the back garden with a scrubbing brush and a bucket with washing powder and hot water and just scrubbed down really well, then sprayed it with the hosepipe to rinse it well.
It was hot weather so it dried really quickly, the covers are usually quite thin and not that absorbent, or so I found with most of the buggies I've had.
Good luck, hope you manage to get it all scrubbed up and get rid of the mustiness
