  • Hi all,

Just to let you know i checked my account and i have been charged £7.99 by policy admin services since december ...wait for it...2003!!

anyway, i phoned them and as per usual was offered one years worth back (£95.88) if i agreed to close the matter there and then? I asked what my options were and he said that they would have to check with phones 4 u to see if they have a copy of my contract and if they dont i would be due a full refund....ofcourse i declined the £95.88 and said i would await the outcome.

I recieved a letter in the post today saying they do NOT have a copy of the contract i supposedly signed there i will receive a full refund in 10 working days.....£543.00!!!!!! touch!!:T

Hope this helps anyone is that is in the same situation. I must say for the record they were very helpful and quick responding as i received the letter 3 days after my call.

    Hope this helps!

    Best regards

    Tom
  • I would just like to add to this thread as I am one of those people who assumed that this DD was legitimate for years and meant to check it out - assumed it was something to do with Mortgag or house/life insurance but never quite got around to it. However as I am moving house now was a good time to checjk this out. From this website I found out what it was and then rang them to check it out!

Excatly as everybody else has stated and I had forgotten I bought a Nokia from P4U in 2004 and thus had had over £500 taken out of my account - albeit in a legitimate way by DD since then.

They agreed to cancel straight away and offered me a goodwill 1 years payback but as the gentleman before I have held out for the copy of the mandate - which I would think they cannot provide but even if they do and I was stupid enough to sign something I shouldn't have - that is a chance I've decided to take!

Juts to say how useful this thread was to me and thanks for all of those who previously contributed and to agree how shocked I was to have wasted £500 without even realising it! It really is a con of the highest order.

I was talked into taking the insurance at phones4u, he gave me £30 to take it and I canceled the DD at the bank and pocketed the cash.
Have to say they are very persistant, they phoned me to ask if I had cancelled the DD, I told them I had as I'd changed my mind and he went into this long rant about how just cancelling the DD didn't cancel the policy blah, blah, blah.
Pretty much told him to F off. In the last 2 months they have called me...
72 times!!! lol, recognise the number so just don't answer, or if I do answer just stay silent until they get hacked off and hang up!!!
It is up to the person to cancel the policy tho, if you take out the free offer you really need to set a reminder to cancel before you get charged otherwise you will be paying forever more
  • To add to the list, I also had £7.99 taken out of my account every month - for 6 years - and also thought it was a bank charge. I only investigated it after finding out I was scammed by the 'O2 Prepay Limited' scam for £30 and so went through all my banking details.

After lots of searching, I rang (0844 871 0600) to get the DD cancelled. They were very nice and agreed to stop it straight away. I then rang the customer services department (0800 197 3015) to complain that I had never been contacted by text, phone, or letter in the 6 year period and that I wanted to see the original signed Mandate as I was sure I didn't sign it.

Within a minute the guy spoke to his Manager and offered me a goodwill gesture of 2 years money back. I said I would think about it. I rang back 5 minutes later and said I wanted to see the original mandate still. They then upped the offer to 3 years money back. Again I said I would think about it, and rang them in the morning to say I had contacted my Bank etc and that I really wanted to see the original Mandate. As soon as I said that the lady openly admitted that they don't keep records for that long and said she would refund all my money. Again she was very nice and the whole process lasted less than 5 minutes. I received two letters confirming the conversation and the money transfer and the money is now in my account – less than 10 days later.

Something must have been dodgey in the whole process of taking this money as they did not put up a fight and offered me money straight away.

Anyway, I hope that helps - they did say that 6 years is the time they get rid of the records so up to you if you challenge them on anything under that – but judging on all the comments – I think its worth it!
  • I cancelled my direct debit with them last week as I no longer require the insurance. They have noticed this as I recieved this text this morning from them
"Hi. We need to talk to you about your Direct Debit as soon as possible. Please call Policy Admin 0800 056 2234 for more information."
Needless to say, I won't be ringing them up lol.

I have to say I have had my last 4 phones from Phones 4 U, and yes, they are conmen LOL. The only problem is with places like this is that if you go direct to the phone companies themselves you won't get anywhere near the deal you'll get at P4U. I got a new handset upgrade last week and managed to haggle myself 10% off my line rental for a year, 70 quid for being a loyal customer and another 50 quid for trading in my old and knackered phone. So as much as it might make my teeth itch to deal with them, they're a means to an end and all it takes afterwards is a letter and a click on 'cancel direct debit' on internet banking to get rid of the insurance.
  • I have discovered the exact same thing this morning!

Again as those above i was offered 12 months payments back in good will gesture, but as with those above, i am sure i never signed anything back in 2005. So i have requested proof!!!

Again i should recieve all my payments back within 10 days if they cannot find the documentation, who knows. I feel slightly stupid for not realising for 5 years but also feel like ive been robbed every month by a company i didnt even know existed!

    Will keep you informed!!

When they rang me I was on the phone for about 1 hour.

I flat out refused it. Even with the first 3 months free.

"But you can have the 3 months free, then cancel" the guy said.

But I knew its never ever that simple. So I ALWAYS refuse these type of offers.

Thanks for the info...I recently discovered that they were taking 7.99 from my account when my account manager phoned me (she was new to the branch and wanted an introductory 'chat') and mentioned this. I immediately chopped the DD but I signed up for this in march 2003!! I'm sure I cancelled it cos I havent used pwns 4 u since about 2004!
I'm gonna try and get some dosh back tomorrow :)
I will let you know how I get on
