Why do people enter?

So I've seen lots of people who have won stuff then say 'it's no use to me whatsoever, I'll be binning it'. What is the point in entering a competition for something you know you wouldn't use or enjoy? It annoys me, because I've never won a thing and the things that people just 'throw away' are things that I would like to win myself. It just seems to take the win off someone else just for the sake of winning something...

Does that make any sense? I am very tired still...

I can see where you are coming from, but I think you will find that the majority of the people on this board do not BIN their wins.

If you are referring to the paintball vouchers I (and I will not speak for others) believe that it was not a try win but a marketing ploy, as people who never entered the competition 'won' the vouchers as well. Also any prize that costs you money ie the £10 per person booking fee, is not a prize.

    Sorry rant over:mad: .

I only enter competitions that I know I can use the prize from, and have never had to throw away or turn down a prize so far, but each to their own, if people want to do that, it is a free world and that is their choice and it is certainly not having a negative effect my prize stash:rotfl: .

Hang in there and the wins will soon start rolling in.;)

There's been a lot of people this last week saying they're binning the paintballing voucher and that's because they were sent out as a promotion when we entered a competition for a TV with DVD's as runner-up prizes. They're not really prizes, they're promotional discounts probably sent out as booby prizes to the losers. :rotfl:

Personally, I only enter competitions for prizes I really want (although I'm sure many of the runner-up prizes wouldn't be to my liking) - I wouldn't have time to enter them all anyway!

I have only started entering competitions (2 weeks ago). I am only entering competitions that I want to win, or if it could be used as a present for someone.

I am dreaming of winning the This Morning 20K so I will be nearly debt-free, but to be honest even winning a book or DVD would be a thrill!

It wasn't just the paintball ones, although I didn't realise they were such a scam.

I just don't see the point in getting something you don't actually want... but yes, if anyone wants to give things away to me, feel free! :D

yes i totally agree with you, i never enter comps unless its something i actually want myself.
However i can understand why some people enter comps to see what they win on ebay, because that is still money won in that case.
I dont get why people enter to win tickets for concets and shows they dont want to go to tho.
I also think its mean to enter the autographed comps if you are not a real fan, as i know there must be real fans out there that would love to win it!
I can see this argument from both sides!
    HAPPY COMPING

I too only enter competitions that I want/need/or can give as a gift.

Saying that there are times when things don't go as planned. As with the Graduation fashion show tickets. I would have loved to take my DD, but couldn't make it this year, so I put a message on here and the went to chezas for her niece.

This was done without payment and with me paying the postage, I think it's nice to pass things on if you can't use them.

The paintball tickets were as previously said a booby price in a competition to win a tv.

I have had a rant about only entering competitions you really want before, I think when you've only just started entering comps it seems unfair that others are getting things they don't seem to need. You learn pretty quick that most people on her are wonderful and helpful and if they don't want or can't use a prize, will offer it on here.

I also admit to paying for a prize - someone had won tickets for Lazytown with a meet and greet and couldn't make that date. So I offered to pay something for them. A lot less then it would have cost to buy the tickets and I don't think I would have been able to afford the full amount.

I can see your point and have wondered this in the past too.

I only enter competitions for items that I can use. Occasionally there may be a runners up prize that wouldn't be suited to me, but the main prize would (or vice versa) i.e. the main prize could be an Xbox 360 and runners up prize could be an xbox 360 game. I'd love the xbox 360, but the game on it's own wouldn't be much use to me! :D

I rarely enter for tickets because I don't have transport and probably couldn't afford the travel. Also quite a few ticket competitions seem to be short notice closing dates which often causes issues for people.

I don't enter for holidays for '2' people - I'm a single mum with 2 kids so I couldn't use the holiday! And it seems most holiday competitions are only for 2 people.

I'm in a rented property so boilers, windows, paints, blinds, bathrooms and kitchens are no use to me.

    etc etc!
:T*Thanks to all who posts comps * :j

I don't enter for tickets or holidays as i know i wouldn't be able to go!!

However, i do enter for various other things that i might not 'want' but this is simply because i am desperate for cash, and if i think i could sell the item i will enter!

The fact i am soooo damn skint is the reason i have turned to competitions to be honset! Haven't won anything yet though lol, not since i've started here, but have had a couple of small wins before!
