Nikon 35mm SLR cameras at Dixons

I was desperately after a Nikon F55/F65 with twin lens kit and spent hours carefully bidding on Ebay with no luck as because it's student season, new photography students were coming out of the woodwork to bid on them up to 75% of what I thought was the best price on a new one, not for me that. So I was resigned to plodding down to Argos to buy the best deal I had found which was £229 for the twin lens kit Nikon F55 when I suddenly remembered that Dixons had recently announced that they were going to stop selling film cameras. Clearance I thought! We headed round the corner and sure enough, there was the very kit on sale for £199.99, £30 cheaper than Argos and only £30 dearer than the last 2nd hand one I'd seen go on Ebay. Then I look to the left of it and see a 'Clearance Special' of the Nikon F75 twin lens kit for the same price! This normally retails at around £300-£330! It wasn't easy acting all coy and calm as I nearly chewed the salesman's arm off, but I was very pleased with such a bargain and I imagine Dixons stores all over are clearing their 35mm SLR stock in the same way. Don't bother looking online as that sold out a long time ago, you have to go into the stores to see what they have left.

  • Hmmph, don't have a Dixons in my town. I did see factory recondtioned F75's on eBay for about £120 BIN with 3 year guarantee a while ago, but with only 1 lens.
I would say that, in general, now is a good time to buy 35mm gear. With more and more people "going digital", there are bargains available.
  • I'm supposed to be buying xmas presents for other people and now all I can think about is new lenses for my Canon Slr's  Grrrrrrr naughty person
My mind not only wanders .......... sometimes it leaves completely
  • Popped back into Dixons today, Nikon F55 Twin lens kit is now £179.88! That's as cheap as some s/h go for on Ebay! They had some Canon twin kits as well, can't remember the price though.
