Legal Help Required Please

I have a friend who had a mortgage with Northern Rock. He got a mortgage and took it to the max they were willing to lend, about £115000. After a while his marrige fell apart, fell into arrears by about £4000 and his then wife said he could not see his kid again. This threw him over the edge and moved to another country without paying off the arrears or the mortgage and without notifying Northern Rock. The house is up for sale (I presume by the recievers).

Today, I have spoken to my friend and he wants to return to England. He has been offered a 50K a year job but wonders what awaits him on his return.

If anyone can offer any information and advice, it would be appriciated.

Regards
RFU

He will still be responsible for all the arrears, the interest, the fees/court fees/auction fees, plus interest again.

He'd best just stop hiding and find out the damage and get it over and dealt with. It won't go away and until he's sorted it out it'll stuff him up for the future too.

Although he and his wife were jointly responsible, she won't be in a position to pay it most likely, so he's the only one they've got to go after.

Once he's found out the damage, come back here and head over to the debt free wannabe board for advice on how he can best proceed. Sometimes there seem deals to be struck in certain circumstances to agree to lower sums. Sometimes there aren't. But head over there to see once he has told you the full extent of his liability.

It's certainly not worth mucking up the chance to earn £50k/year for. No matter how much he now owes.

    Thanks for the information.
What would be his first point of contact? The mortgage company or the receivers?
