Help Needed - Job Advertising Website

Options
Hi All

I've just got a new job working from home as a recruitment consultant. I've never done the job before and the company will give me training. I start on 15th but I want to get going now by researching places to advertise jobs - would you all be so kind as to link me any websites you use regularly when looking for work. I have the main ones, monster etc.

Thanks

MM

It was advertised on a financial services recruitment website. the recruitment company got clever and realised there were plenty of quality candidates looking to get out of financial services at the moment. The basic isnt a lot but it pays my rent so its a start and I still have income from my mortgage adviser job which I will do PT.

The company are small and all consultants based at home - I think they are looking to take more on but not until later this year when I am competent - do you want me to PM you when the time comes?

Oh, if you could PM me when the time comes, that would be fantastic. I'll ask around about more job websites for you.
    Thankyou

  • our organisation provides media planning for recruiting organisations.

In essence as a recruitmer there are a huge variety of site options, but in terms of recruitment job boards they split down in the following four:

Generic catch all job boards: e.g. Total Jobs, Monster, Workthing etc

Role specific job boards: often associated with a professional trade publication e.g. Mad.co.uk for Marketing people. Jimfinder.com for engineers

Regional job boards: e.g. myleedsjobs.co.uk or S1jobs for Scotland

And don't forget the lifestyle options - from advertising on Facebook, to putting banners on guardianjobs.co.uk to reach those 'passive' job seekers who aren't actually on a specific job search, but who could be 'interrupted' by something that catches their eye. (The Guardian is really strong here as they can target specific profiles by monitoring users web usage... but this is all fairly complicated).

However, there's one piece of advice that I would pass on:

    1. Remember that 80% of all candidates job searches start with a search engine. This means that the people you are targetting will using the sites that come top in the job searches. So as a useful rule of thumb, if you are looking to recruit, say, mechanical engineers, put "mechanical engineers jobs" into a search engine and it will generate a number of web sites.

These will be the sites that the candidates are visiting.

Next step is to try to build a picture of how effective these sites are. Put simply, have a look at the number of vacancies that are on these sites that are similar to the role you are recruiting to.

Finally, speak to their advertising department to get their site stats - you're really looking to find out how many unique users they have, and how many similar roles they have carried.

That really is a very basic introduction. But hope it helps. There are so many different things you can do.
Oh, and don't forget that employers are increasing searching the online CV databases that many of these sites employ. In my experience this is where the most successful recruitment consultants find their CVs (But also remember that not all the best candidates register with these sites).
