Hi there
I am having issues with Capital one - they stopped my account but did not notify me, my acount was not in arrears and i had not defaulted on any payments, i have not yet had a satisfactory response on why this has happened and my account has still not been reactivated - is this legal?

Credit facilities can be withdrawn at any time but I would have thought they would have notified you in advance if there was no problem (I think the Egg customers that had accounts withdrawn were given a short notice period). Have you definitely not had an email or letter recently from them?
When did it get withdrawn?? Could it be that they think that there has been suspicious activity on your account (eg someone trying to use your card in berlin while you are here or spending that is outside of your normal pattern)£34,547 (Dec 07); Current debt: £zilch (Debt free December 2010)

How did you find out it had been stopped?
I just noticed on another thread that you have a LOB rate on the card, so you have used it for balance transfer only?
Even if a card has been stopped the balance will only need to be repaid in line with the existing terms, they don't suddenly force you to pay it all back in one lump sum.£34,547 (Dec 07); Current debt: £zilch (Debt free December 2010)

If someone else has the details (ie you have had your ID stolen) and has tried to use it they would have possibly suspended the account.
Is their call centre open today?£34,547 (Dec 07); Current debt: £zilch (Debt free December 2010)

poorandindenial could be right about the fraud issue. I had one of my credit cards stopped last year for seemingly no reason at all. Was a bit embarrassing when I tried to use it to pay for petrol and it got rejected. When I rang them, I found out that they had put a stop on my card as they had noticed an unsual spending pattern on my card. My card had been cloned without me knowing it and was being used illegally but I wasn't aware until I rang them. Certainly give them a call.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

Mortgage free since 2014
