Holland & Barrett

I am so angry I could scream
Having read in the main forum that Holland & Barrett give 10% Discount to over 60's I went into Abbeycentre today hoping to get about 6 items in their shop using this discount. What do you think, I was told that the Over 60's discount DIDN'T APPLY to Northern Ireland. The assistant was a very pleasant girl and said she was embarrassed when anyone asked her for the discount as she didn't know why we don't get it. Typical, treated once again like 2nd class citizens. I was so mad I left the shop buying nothing. I have also e-mailed Holland & Barrett and will keep you posted if they reply. Needless to say I wont be holding my breath. :D

What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!
  • Thanks Brian. You will probably be well past pension age, before they introduce this to care. Companies like H & B really do rub me the wrong way I suspose there are 100's of ones like this. I will give my order to one of the health sites on internet, although come to think of it they will probably charge an arm and leg for postage Cant win eh

Yes, lots of insurance companies, weightwatchers - maybe we should have a black list on the NI forum, like the one that show companies who charge extra for delivery to NI.

I know it's only small stuff, but this is the sort of thing [it is after all, discrimination] the assembly should be jumping on.

Trouble is a lot of folk would be too embarassed to kick off [well done you] and would pay up.

H & B are not exactly holding back queues from their doors, so they should grab any business going, more fool them.

Hope you get a grovelling reply from them.

Can I suggest that the OP actually contacts her MLA (or M.P.) about this? I know we all like to complain about them, but some of them do actually give a toss about getting things done (Jeffrey Donaldson, my MP, was actually superb, much as I may disagree with some of his politics).

The only problem with a black list is that we tried something like that before for restaurants and it ended up in a total farce......I seem to remember several dubious posts culminating in the thread being removed.

    Just a thought.
Life in this world is, as it were, a sojourn in a cave. What can we know of reality? For all we can see of the true nature of existence is, shall we say, no more than bewildering and amusing shadows cast upon the inner wall of the cave by the unseen blinding light of absolute truth, from which we may or may not deduce some glimmer of veracity, and we as troglodyte seekers of wisdom can only lift our voices to the unseen and say humbly "Go on, do deformed rabbit again.....it's my favourite". © Terry Pratchett in "Small Gods"

  • This is the answer from Holland & Barrett to my e-mail re discount, any thoughts on it?

Quote "rather than give a discount to selected customers Holland & Barrett some time ago took the decision instead to offer best value greatly discounted prices on a wide range of products which can be enjoyed by all customers.
Where a store has previously offered the 10% Senior Citizen Discount it is our policy to continue this however we will not be extending this to any other stores. This discount does not apply with any other promotional in store offer. This policy enables us to offer continual good value and regular promotional offers which all our customers can take advantage of" unquote

This is fair enough if what your looking for in Holland & Barrett are quite frequently on offer personally what I look for is NEVER on offer.
"Hats" of to them for the quick reply. Nice to know they do at least respond to any criticism. ;)

    Here's a new word for Holland & Barrett..... 'Area-ism'...lol...
Again being discriminated against because of the area of the UK in which we live......

  • H & B give 15% back through quidco and pigsback with £1.99 postage. If you were buying something expensive it might be worth it!
