Barclay's Pin sensory

I just went to pay someone for the first time on my Internet banking and it said I would have to have a pin sensory reader.
I watch a demo and it looks a right pain.

Is anyone using one of these already? and are they easy to use or time consuming or can you get around using one.

I use a PIN Sentry type device with RBS. I don't find it too much of a hassle but maybe I would if I added new payees more regularly.

They're not a problem. After entering your name and customer number on the login page, you just need to enter the last 4 numbers off your card, and then after putting your card in the PINsentry gadget and entering your PIN on it, you're allocated a number, which you enter on the login page.

They are no hassle, unless you haven't got the Pin Sentry device when you want to log in!

Was it a Barclays credit card?

I couldn't set up my transaction as I will have to wait for this card reader to get to me which could take 7 days and I might have to have new Debit card as well.
They could have warned people in advance that this would happen.

    Thanks.

They did. It's been on their website on the login screens regularly since last October.

You will need a new Debit card as well (unless you've had a new one since last November) - this will come automatically. The chip contains extra info to work with the PinSentry card reader.

If you need to make your payment BEFORE you receive the PinSentry and new debit card, you should be able to do this on the website of the company you want to pay or with them over the telephone. Alternatively if you've got a payment slip you can use the Post Office etc.

They are a nightmare - I got one with Barclays and Natwest.

The whole idea of online banking is so you can do it where-ever, when-ever. But no you need this device now to get a secure code to be able to do most things you use to be able to.

I understand the security aspect of them but I do my banking in a few different places when I get the time. And I dont want to be carrying the device with me and most of the time I dont! So then have to wait and hope I dont forget to do it

Why is it that some people need this sentry thing to log in at Barclays and others don't ?
