Professional fees can be deducted from tax anyway so it's not like you will actually be paying them anyway-unless he is PAYE but most professionals pay fees that are a lot higher (although admittedly I've never heard of a bouncer only earning £6.50 ph-around here it's about double to start)

  • I totally agree my husband is working in the wrong place as he doesnt earn that much and just to update details and renew a photo dosent take that much money.I do actually know someone that works there and their opinion is it dosent cost that much to update details and they think its a farce:confused:

I would renew, then change venues that he works at, he is getting ripped off, its a risky job with a lot of responsibility.

As other posters have stated, SIA is not-for-profit organisation. Therefore they cannot be 'ripping you off'.

It's more than just laminating a card. There was the initial set-up of the organisation, the regulation of it and on-going costs. One of these is the lamination and renewal of your partner's membership. Why not check out:http://www.the-sia.org.uk/home/about_sia/legislation/psia_schedule1.htm for more info.

He is not forced to participate in the scheme if you don't feel it is economically viable. I personally think it's one of the cheapest fees for a professional body that you will stumble accross, especially as it's only three-yearly rather than annually.

It's an industry that needs policing properly, it could be argued that SIA do not do enough - but it's lead to a massive improvement.
