  • I'm sure that's not right and a definite breech of the DDA.
 As soon as a new act comes into play, like DDA, everyone seems to think its one size fits all. There are STRICT conditions with DDA, Stress due to you being crap @ your job is not under DDA protection. Im sick of seeing people abusing SSP for the most pathetic reasons. When people are genuinely off sick they receive a poor income, maybe if halfwits stopped abusing it, then maybe the SSP could be raised.

Yes you CAN be sacked while off on short or long term sick.

Yes you CAN be sacked for being off sick. Your company does not have any obligation to hold a job open, it does have however, have an obligation to it's workforce, and if your sickness is having an effect on morale, staffing levels etc they can sack you. If you are unable to perform your contracted duties then again they can give you the bullet. They also have no obligation to offer you a different position.
Thats why employers and the new style Medical Certs have been designed with various options like light duties, shortened hours etc, but if you hide behind SSP/Med Certs then why should an employer keep your job open. If you dont try and mediate with your employer directly or via a third party, CAB, ACAS etc to resolve issues that you feel made you sick, and just think that Sick leave will protect you and if service applies an emplyment Tribunal will protect you, you are very MISTAKEN. Take my word, if you are not sick, just quit and find another job. Remember people who lie about sickness to dodge working are as scummy as those who just refuse to work at all............
