Slightly sour plums

As the title says, I have a punnet of plums that are just a little too sour for my taste, there are about 15 left and I am reluctant to put them out is there any simple way I can make them more palatable or some simple recipies for 1 that I might use them in.

I'd halve them, put in a dish with a glass of red wine, sherry or similar and a tablespoon or two of sugar and bake for about half an hour. Serve with cream.

Could you halve them, remove the stones, and then nuke in the microwave for a couple of minutes? I would then add some sugar till they taste ok for your tastebuds. Be careful about sugar in them before nukeing though - sugar and microwaves are not a good combination.

I've just used up half a punnet of nectarines this way, - 6 left that were sitting looking at me for over a week. We've had a lot of fruit this week and these had slipped under my 'use up' radar. They are now refrigerated and will be used up either as a crumble or just plain with yoghourt instead of cream.

    To disguise sourness.
    Spiced plums.
Cut plums in half and remove stones. Melt a knob of butter in a saucepan and melt until foaming, add plums and fry gently for a couple of minutes, add a teaspoon of cinnamon and a teaspoon of nutmeg and fry for a minute until lovely smell starts, add a couple of heaped tablespoons sugar and stir in. Lower the heat and simmer gently for about 15-20 mins or until cooked through. Delicious with ice cream.

Crumble is very easy. I made it in home economics at school. Here is a quick Google recipe: -

You can just use normal sugar and skip the oats. I have heard the oats can make a crumble much nicer.

I am now faced with a second problem:- butter, sugar, oats, flour and a food processor are strangers in my house, I only use sugar for making jam and have never had need of the others.
    Thanks anyway.

You don't need the food processor. You can just rub it together between your fingers. Here is an applecrumble recipe that tells you how: -

This won't help that your missing all other ingredients.

Crumble is, IMO, better hand made, rather than done in food processor. Easier, and turns out better for me, if the butter is very soft and it's not over-mixed.

aah, plum crumble, food of the gods... anyone tried it with greek yoghurt? cuts through the 'heaviness' of a crumble, even more delicious.

i've never made crumble in a processor, why on earth would you bother? takes about two minutes to rub in fat and add sugar, easiest pudding ever.
