Grab an extra £10 at Debenhams with the student Giftcard

What Is It?
The student giftcard works like any other Debenhams giftcard which can be purchased in store and loaded with an amount of your choice. The bonus here is that when a card is loaded with £100 Debenhams will automatically credit an extra £10. They are marketing it as a student card as it can be remotely topped up e.g. by concerned parents wanting to get some cash to their kid safe in the knowledge it's not going to blow it on booze. In fact the card is not just for students and can be used by anyone.
What's the Catch?
There's no catch. The offer is nationwide and is open to anyone regardless of whether you're a student. The press office have confirmed it' an ongoing promotion so handy for Christmas. The gift card can be used to purchase most things in store or online and when you make the purchase (not when you buy the card) you can also get Nectar points. Of course you have to actually want to spend £100 in Debenhams though!
How do I get one?
You just need to go in store to purchase the card (make sure you say it;s the student giftcard you want) and then once it's loaded with £100 the £10 should be automatically credited.
Note to regulars: I am aware this info is available in another thread, yet I wanted to start a new one as its going from the tip and I needed a detailed explanation.

So is that £10 for every £100 loaded or is it only on the first £100 ?
Is there an expiry date to spend the money once on the card ?
It does sound OK - come christmas once the sale bargains are on. So look at it as an extra discount - providing you can also use them on sale priced goods (which I thought it should be !)
I say these things, BUT I have to add this is a very clever marketing ploy to get you into Debenhams to spend and get 10% off the first £100. I bet many who don't purchase from the store will now think again - so be clever about most bargains/special offers and think twice and then make your decision.
Do you pop into every shop that has signs for 10% off ??
Well, that's my small contribution for the day.0 -
Hi
just a quick note on this it may be for just the first £100 credited to the card but if it is ongoing there is nothing to stop you actually getting a new card everytime you choose to put £100 pounds on the card, as they work like gift vouchers there is nothing to stop you geting a number of these cards especially if you are likely to buying a big item, for example if you need a new washing machine at £400 buy four student gift cards and use all four on purchase and by doing so you have made yourself £40 to spend on something for yourself.0 -
Just wanted to add, that the free £10.00 top up can take up to a week to be added to the card.
However, you can check your gift card balance on the Debenhams website by clicking the link to customer services, clicking on gift card and then check my balance.
I have used 3 seperate cards now (for purchases that I was going to buy even without a discount) and all 3 cards were credited with the £10.00 top up.0 -
Sorry, don't know if I am being thick, but I canot see anything special about a 10% discount when you have to commit yourself to £100, except of cours if youve got a planned purchase. With the number of sales around these days One needs to keep one's options open0

Can you use the cards with the Daily Mail 20% off vouchers as well? Therefore saving even more?

Was just about to post about that, don't see why not, the gift card is just a payment method, so you could save a potential 30%, for those who don't know collect 2 coupons with the Daily Mail for 20% off at Debenhams2p off is still 2p off!0 -
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/prmts/prmts.html?in_article_id=362485&in_page_id=1777 Looks like it's ended now, but it gives details of getting the 20% off online...2p off is still 2p off!0

The £10 is only added first time, not every £100.
The card also has restrictions and cannot be used in all departments. Food services is the main example and in some stores some of the concessions may also refuse to take it.
There is a two year time limit on the card.
The 20% daily mail offer was only on certain items, not across the store.0
