Second baby car seat

Need one for a child that's 6 months and out-grown their first, any recommendations or offers anyone knows of?

  • Don't buy a car seat second hand unless you can be COMPLETELY sure that it has not been in an accident. Do not simply take someone's word for it. It is not worth taking the chance with your child's safety.

It is worth a trip to Halfords as you can try several chairs to find which one suits your child and fits your car - the prices are not too bad either. But if you then find one you like you can source a new one of that model elsewhere - but NOT secondhand.

This has been discussed a couple of times, the links are here and here. :)

I searched for Britax Renaissance (because I remembered recommending them) which is why those words are highlighted in red ;)
Just run, run and keep on running!

  • I can definately recommend Britax, had mine for years and it has been used for 4 children!! Try Boots.com as well, saw an offer there yesterday for 10 or 20% off a certain car seat.

another recommendation for britax. also have a look a their website to check compatibility with your car, they have a very good program/car list thing

halfords usually have offers, as do boots, esp if you have double points, money off, new baby club vouchers etc.

We have a Kiddy Life Plus from Germany. This is a superb (and very light) seat easy to fit and transfer and was one of the few to score a good in the 2003 AA Motoring Trust results:- http://www.aatrust.com/files/reports/01062003_seat_crash_tests.pdf

I bought mine from Germany but the UK agents (I was so impressed that I contacted the company to become the UK agent) had just been chosen. They have a shop but also sell slightly cheaper on EBay. They sell them for about £100 on EBay. You will sometimes find them a bit cheaper at about £85.

The company website is also useful (they have an english page):-

One more thing it does from about 9 months (we used ours from about 7 months) to 12 years so should be the last one you need to buy
  • i have a Maxi Cosi Xp as the second baby seat.

You say that your 6mth old has outgrown the 1st car seat??!! sounds very young. the only thing, is that make sure your babies weight is over the minimum required by the second baby seat.

the price of the baby seat, cannot be saved, its worth splashing out for the kids safety. if you want to buy instore, best time now, will probbaly be after Xmas. Our Maxi Cosi was £150, got in the Xmas sales for £99.99, so thats a good saving.

best go and check out a few seats in a few stores, and then maybe search online for a cheaper supplier.

I like getting my things instore, as I hate waiting in for goods to be delivered.
  • I found that Toys R Us were cheaper than Halfords for the same seat
  • Hi, all my children have a maxi cosi priory xp - so hence i have three of them. They are great car seats one of the safest on the market. Really easy to install correctly and kids are really comfy.

Best price i found was on the Glasgow Pram Centre at £99 a real bargain.

We are chuffed to bits with our Britax Renaissance. Boots often do offers on them and we bought ours on babies247.co.uk (there may be a hyphen in there somewhere) and got it for £79 reduced from £139.
Annabeth Charlotte arrived on 7th February 2008, 2.5 weeks early :D
