Hi Ellie, the scanners are fixed to the wall you have to bring the item to them you can't carry them around with you like the little scanners at Sainsburys. The self-scan tills look like regular tills and you scan your items through yourself (including the vouchers). I find them easier as I can scan through all my own vouchers, and scan the items through in the order I want them packed. If your vouchers exceed the limit then they have to be authorised, though I've never had anyone query them. Hope this helps.

Update:
Stockport Extra (Portwood) - aisle 7 (broken 25/2/06) AND in the electrical area (opposite hoover bags, look for the column going up to the roof).

Also has self-scan.

Having looked at updated list you have 2 entries for Exeter and it should be one:
Exe Vale, Exeter Devon 2 scanners found (there could be more but I didn't find them) one in the toiletries aisle and one aisle 12

Has 2 scanners one around the corner from the cd's and another in the fizzy bottled pop aisle, next to lemonade.

in thornton heath there are 2. One in the toddler clothing and there is also one in by the wine section.
