Ceiling lights that take ordinary light bulbs

We're in the process of changing all our lightbulbs to energy saving ones. However we're having difficulty in the lounge. Our present pendant ceiling light shades aren't long enough and the bulbs stick out of the ends. We went to Peterborough yesterday and were unable to find any ceiling lights that take ordinary sized bulbs. All we want is a ceiling light with about three shades that can take a normal sized bulb. Everything we looked at either took candle or golfball/globe bulbs. Do they exist?
