Hare recipe anyone?

Does anyone have a good recipe for hare that they have actually tried.

I bought it recently from the local market (£5.00:j ). It should be plenty for the four of us. I've cooked hare (and rabbit) plenty of times before but was just looking for some fresh ideas.

Thanks

Andy

My MIL cooked us one the other weekend. She browned the jointed hare with shallot and bacon, added carrot, stock and fresh herbs, and cooked it slowly until tender. Added HM damson jam and cream before serving. It was delicious :T

Thanks. The jam and cream sounds a good idea. Thought I might also try replacing the jam with dark chocolate.

I'm really surprised that you can get hare at this time of the year -according to various books I own it is in season from September to February -definitely not in June:confused:

Last time I had it was in our local gastropub and it was in a ragout served over tagliatelle -yummy but I don't have a recipe I've actually tried -sorry.
  • when I was a kid my mum used to make jugged hare which was delicious and rich -
    this recipe looks similar

I adapted a recipe for Beef in Beer & served it as a suet pud - that worked well
I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I Know

Had to comment on this thread. My cats brought a hare in through the catflap yesterday! and ..... OH thought I was joking when I remarked "if this was an OS household - that would be tonight's dinner sorted".:p
