Mackenzie Hall / O2

Approximately 4 years ago I was transferred aboard by my employers so in the lead up to my relocation I cancelled all phones, utilities etc. one of which was my mobile phone subscription with O2. At the time I was told by the operator that a final payment would be taken at the end of the month and then the account would be deactivated - this duly occurred.
Being a careful sort I left a mail forwarding address with Royal Mail and for continuity purposes changed my address to my parents on the electoral register. I am still registered at the same address.
Apprximately 6 months after my move my parents received a letter from a debt collection agency demanding payment of an outstanding bill from O2 - the amount was something ridiculous like £10 or thereabouts. I duly paid and was again told all was now settled.
Now, four years down the line my parents have just received another letter - this time from Mackenzie Hall saying that I owe another £15.32 to O2 and threatening county court action. Naturally I am a little peturbed ( ) and would like to find out what the f. is going on. Does anyone know how I can confirm (or otherwise) that the outstanding amount is legitimate? Mackenzie Hall have refused to give me a direct contact with O2 and to be frank I am loathe to pay any further bills in case they keep coming. Can anyone suggest a plan of attack.
All suggestions gratefully received.

Hello
I would send a letter to Mackenzie Hall (DO NOT RING THEM - they can be very rude and aggressive,) asking to see a copy of the original signed credit agreement (unfortunately with mobile phone contracts, you may not have signed one), a statement of accounts and a deed of assignment for the alleged debt. In the letter, make sure you put as the first paragraph "I DO NOT acknowledge any debt to your company". My guess is, they won't have any of these things. If they don't produce any of these documents then they can't legally persue you for any sum of money (even though they will probably keep on doing so).
Mackenzie Hall are well known for using underhand tactics in trying to get anyone to pay a debt, even if they do not owe anything. It might be worthwhile ringing O2 on the customer services number from their website to see if they are aware of any outstanding debt in your name.
Have a look at the stories in the other threads for this forum - just search for Mackenzie Hall and you will see how rotten this company actually is.
I'm sure other members of the forum will come and give you more info...0
